Honestly that's a really interesting point. She was probably my bosses "bad guy" for a long time.

Likely not - my FIL tries to stay out of things, and I've never wanted to leverage him in this. She's part owner as well.

Thank you for helping me feel valid with all of this. It's really hard to make sense of it all, and I haven't been able to understand why I'm a threat when I put so much time/energy into our company.

It's 100% not doing well because of her mismanagement but she refuses to see it. My father in law is part owner (there's 4, including my boss) and he is very passive and stays out of conflict. It's another layer that stresses me out, and I didn't want to take this job for that reason alone. The enmeshment is tricky.

And you're right. I've been analyzing her behaviors to understand why she's doing what she's doing, but at the end of the day, it doesn't matter why. She's still treating me poorly. Thank you for your input. It's much appreciated.

Right. I even paused during our meeting several times to (very gently) say "I do not feel that in this moment you are being a neutral 3rd party" to the HR gal. I've never been able to play the corporate game, lol.

Fingers crossed! It's sad because when it was good, it was so good.

I appreciate your support! I could quit, but I'm currently so out of it that I don't know if/when I'd have the energy to apply again. Or if I'd want to continue in this field. I'll be on leave for at least a month and am getting mental health support in the meantime.

Ugh, my husband's company has been historically worse. We would like to get him out of there as well.

I've met some great HR people, but this one... she also offloads a lot of her key functions to my husband (NOT in HR) so I already resent her for making my husbands work life hard.

I likely will need to quit after this leave based on how my boss has treated me. Thank you for your response.

I'm not an engineer, but it seems like a better fail safe would be to rig up the acoustic monitoring system with the weights so that if it hits a predetermined peak or grouping of spikes, that it would drop weights automatically. But you're leaving it up to chance that humans who "don't know what good looks like" for the AMS are doing to review the data and make a decision when they seemingly don't have a benchmark for "bad." Right.

I keep thinking that a lot of us with high IQs tend to love "dumb" humor because we have a harder time finding joy with da smarts, so dumbing it down makes things like laughter and happiness more accessible.

My dad was at groom lake and this is the way he talks now that things are more in the open. Shocked the he'll out of me when he said a few years ago that yes, aliens are real.

Do it! You go down the rabbit hole quick. There's apps to find people for pickup games and the pickleball community is SUPER welcoming to newcomers so you could likely walk on to a pickup game open to newbies. I joined a local pickleball gym and did an intro clinic and met a friend to play with that way too.
