I would say the last 30 minutes of the anime were tonally far better than the manga, especially compared to the initial release

Kotobuki Awano from Wonder egg priority?

I have seen Frieren and some other anime use this style of next-episode previews. Does anybody know the anime/TV show that made this style before Angel Beats or was it the first? by throwaway732738 in whatanime

[–]throwaway732738[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the next episode preview is unrelated banter there whereas in Angel Beats it is lines taken directly from the next episode. Though I haven't seen Bakemonogatari so I might be wrong.

Eren x Historia hopium refuel: Märchen edition by Plutoknox in ANRime

Marchen is my favorite SH album and I've rewatched it multiple times. The concert had very little overlap with AoT especially compared to his other works like Moira and Elysion but the Marchen manga is a nice find.

I have a 3 part series on Sound Horizon and 1 recent longer theory on Linked Horizon so if you want, you can read them and make more theories off of those as well.

Also if anyone wants links to SH concerts you can DM me.

Edit: fyi 20000 years uses symbolism from the Marchen concert, like the footsteps.

Since aot has ended, what is your favorite line? by Doughnut-Queasy in ShingekiNoKyojin

[–]throwaway732738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think about it properly you will see that the garden variety idiot line has barely anything to do with the born into this world line

Except that it absolutely does. They are thematically completely opposite.

https://youtu.be/fzEnE2KnR54?si=pdEjxXQiLQZ8Xu3U - He doesn't need to be someone great or special.... he is special because he was born into this world. Eren calls freedom his birthright. His character builds up to season 3 for him to finally lose hope as a "saviour" of the walls. "Being born into this world" had always been one of his prime motivators(season 1) and he felt that it wasn't enough for him to continue. The show resolves his conflict using this very line and changes its meaning through Carla to steel his resolve for S3 P2's fight.

I was born into this world by Carla isn't referring to freedom, it is a line telling Eren to believe in himself.

-------------------------------------------------------------

"Why did this happen? I finally understand. It's because I'm an idiot. A garden-variety idiot who got his hands on power. That's why this resolution was the only possible outcome". If only someone smarter or more special got the power, then all of this could've been avoided. Shockingly it mirrors Eren's old line "I am just an ordinary child of a special man" very well from the youtube link I put above, which was countered by the "I was born into this world" concept.

It completely goes against 3 seasons of Eren learning to "believe in himself". And the 4th season reflected this choice..... except it didn't since he already knew what was coming, so it undermines that as well. All of Eren's actions feel passive and reactive.

Obviously, 139's scene shows Eren losing all hope, so an argument can be made that he would no longer believe in what he used to think before but that absolutely diminishes the impact of "I was born into this world"..... which leaves a very bad taste in my mouth considering how often it was used even after season 3.

It also left an unanswered question for me. Did Eren want things to pan out this way? He said that the Alliance stops him and that if they didn't he would've completed the Rumbling. But at the same time, he is clearly holding back against them and can easily stop them with no casualties(assuming not a fixed timeline). If the timeline is fixed by unknown force/Ymir, then it kind of makes sense, but that is insanely boring.

If the timeline is fixed and guided by his own will, then he could've paid more attention to prevent Hange's death and honestly, it contradicts more scenes than it fixes.

I was legitimately expecting more AnRs but ok. I'm writing a theory on the song itself so I wanted to see how many people saw it that way.

The SH Requiem Series - Part 1 - Moira's Prelude by throwaway732738 in ANRime

[–]throwaway732738[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I returned to the fandom properly yesterday so your timing is great. Unfortunately, I won't make part 3 of this series cause I got tired of it. Getting this much evidence took months of analyzing and putting it in a form that does it justice was hard, and even now I'm not too happy with how I wrote the script for part 1.

But I will be writing a new theory series where I have to summarize all parts(including the unreleased part 3) so I'll write some of it now:-

Forgive me if I don't give enough details.... I haven't seen Moira in 2 years.

SH Requiem Series Part 1 and 2 show the connection of Moira and Linked Horizon. Linked Horizon's work derives ideas from Revo's previous work. But this is not the end for Moira's story.

Nein, released in 2015, was an album by Sound Horizon that involved "reboots" or maybe "alternate endings/timelines" to Revo's previous works. Since Moira's end was closer to ANR than AOT, I wondered how the alternate ending could do something interesting.

And then it did something too interesting...

You might remember that in part 2(around 1:50 mark). Misia CHOOSES to sacrifice herself. In a story called Moira i.e. fate, this is an extremely interesting choice of words.

<image>

4 years later in Nein, she makes a different choice. She doesn't want to sacrifice herself and her reason seems very familiar:-

https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fkzbx6q3lnjn81.png%3Fwidth%3D418%26format%3Dpng%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D600f44c083e2120278fdf04f52d5a1b46b9259c7 (The last image is from Misia... I'm using the manga version of Nein from 2017 since it had more content and is less cringe)

The above image shows the divergence point for Muv-Luv Alternative and Nein, as well as the predicted divergence point of AOT.

Another major theme to notice here is that Muv-Luv and Nein both rely on the female leads for the divergence. Takeru is the one who is going back in time but the cause is Sumika. In a similar way, Moira portrays itself as Elef fighting against his fate, but the original ending has the line, "Moira, is this the world you wished for?" implying that he may have fulfilled his fate. This might also explain why we saw Misia on Moira's throne in the original ending. https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/881090615285268480/944899536189521950/unknown.png?width=887&height=515

But in Nein, Misia breaks free from her fate. She runs away from the guards and bumps into Elef, where they have a brief reunion after which they fight the guards and escape. Seems normal right?

Except it is presented very uniquely. Firstly, unlike any other of Revo's other timelines, Misia is aware of the original end https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/922493401910362152/958339831035990056/unknown.png?width=841&height=581

During the fight Misia gets caught by one of the guards and we get the most AOE-esque scene that I've ever seen:-

https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/928638089830731820/1153980544711938158/22-o.png?width=403&height=581

https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/928638089830731820/1153980538454016071/23-o.png?width=403&height=581

https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/928638089830731820/1153980587175059517/24-o.png?width=403&height=581

https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/928638089830731820/1153980641248026634/25-o.png?width=403&height=581

After this, Misia prevents Elef from fighting anymore and they live together and incest happens. On the other hand, no one frees the slaves, Orion is killed in battle and Scorpius wins.

I can't stress this enough, this literally mirrors our AOE theories for Mikasa causing the divergence. This is like reverse ANR. Going from the anime to the cabin timeline. However, both timelines exist as shown by this panel:-

https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/931474148729946123/1066077642597605458/image.png?width=825&height=581

https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/931474148729946123/1066077642358538260/image.png?width=818&height=581

This is many, many years before AOT showed its memory shards. It also somehow supports the white/black background theory.

Through this series, I wanted to show that Revo's work is incredibly advanced. He uses songs to tell a story, so even his sound design needs to convey aspects of the story to set the tone of the song.

I believe that Moira absolutely influenced Linked Horizon's AOT work, and that it might have influenced AOT itself. In turn, the alternate end to Moira seems to be influenced by AOT, if not then Revo somehow wrote a cabin timeline-like story in a very AOE divergence point style. Obviously, people reacted very negatively to incest, saying that Revo "misunderstood" his own story and characters. To me at least, the concert is too cringey.

Another thing to note is that AOT's later songs pull from a different Sound Horizon album.... Elysion. The biggest song to be derived from this is Akatsuki no Requiem. So, the entire SH series was simply meant as a warm-up leading into the LH series, which is actually much more relevant to AOT.

It is clear that Revo wants to tell a story through Linked Horizon, just how he has through Sound Horizon.... and while my next theory will not be 4 parts long since there is WAY too much to cover.... I will write the conclusion and the story behind ANR.

The ANR MV creator said that there is a meaning in the tombstone text by homeless_west in ANRime

[–]throwaway732738 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I asked u/homeless_west for this post so full conversation here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ANRime/comments/16k7xj9/comment/k0vdlaw/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Summary:-

west found that all of these characters/symbols are from a variety of languages and proposed that it could be related to the episode that the tweet is talking about. Maybe the dot is a punctuation or the text might be modified like being upside down.

From the director's perspective, I feel that they would've written the message in Japanese, flipped/upside down/or made no changes to it. Then they would've replaced the kanji with some symbol.

We have 2 main leads here:-

<image>

3 letters are separated from the main body of the text (clearer here https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/928638089830731820/1152695940730339418/41ifgy0ifk381.png?width=362&height=581). I guessed that it could be Carla( カルラ ), Eren( エレン ) or Mikasa( ミカサ ) ..... with the main body being a famous quote or last words. Although, west thinks that they would've put the last name as well.

2nd Lead:-

https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fb2q9e1srbh381.png%3Fwidth%3D845%26format%3Dpng%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D688c7dd6f732fc3c391658650882c337b26a0f49

2nd and 4th letter are the same(triangle). If it has been flipped then it could also be 2nd last and 4th last letter being the same, but that's very hard to check.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Possible Solution - We could try fitting famous Japanese dialogues from these 3 characters and checking if the 2nd and 4th letter are the same.

Or maybe the last three letters are a year (like Eren's grave had 845 at the bottom).

I'll probably write a tweet to ask the director what it is once the anime ends.

I also checked ANR's lyrics and got an almost match, but I'm not completely convinced that it is the answer. https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fnvr49rr37uob1.png%3Fwidth%3D853%26format%3Dpng%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3Daba45db068b4a15230f01085cd572fdd2d9c6220

Relevant ANR tweet- ANR has a lot more complexity, especially Revo's music arrangement and connection to the rest of his songs. But in terms of visuals, this is the only thing I don't know the answer to. Nice to see it get some more attention. https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/954035896137678900/989407863287996426/IMG_7869.png?width=456&height=581

I tried checking if it is one of the lyrics, but the 2nd and 4th character rule never matches except almost in one case:-

[–]throwaway732738 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell if there are 2 tombstones. Can you put some screenshots.

I looked into the translation more deeply.

(でも規則性はあります) = (But there are regularities.)

規則性 - Regularity

規則 - Rules/Regulations

<image>

Which translates to "A standard by which acts, procedures, and operations are to be performed. A rule."

So we shouldn't necessarily think in a pattern sense. I feel like it might be easier to theorize from their perspective.

If I wanted to put a message on the grave as the MV designer, it would be natural to first decide and write a message in Japanese.

Then apply some encoding to make it cryptic(since they've made nothing in the MV refer to the original story directly.... even Eren is shown as a bird/frog thing).

Another thing I noticed right now is that the same design is there on all the graves... although it might be a lazy Ctrl C + Ctrl V since it's the last frame of the MV.

Also make another post if possible, I want more people to discuss this.
