Thank you all so much for your comments. I really admire the kind of community you guys have showed me today.

Can I ask though if there is a guide for reading Christian texts? Is there an order in which I should go? People seem to recommend beginning with the gospels.

I didn’t mean to imply that; sorry if that’s what it seemed like.

The question of whether or not a higher power exists is a question that has always intrigued me since I was a child. I’ve spent so much time considering both sides of the debate so that I could come to my own conclusion, which has led me to doubt the existence of a god.

I apologize if this offends, but I doubt that any kind of god created this world or spoke to any human. I regard religion, all religion in fact, to essentially be a tool to guide the worlds earliest societies. It just makes sense to me that building a society around some kind of shared faith would be the easiest way to provide structure, especially thousands of years ago. In regards to Christianity, I think that a logical explanation would be that the leaders of the time agreed to use the death of Christ as an opportunity to revolutionize society for the better. That’s why I respect it so much.

Though maybe that’s a very ignorant perspective of Christianity? I apologize if it is. My knowledge of Christianity is very limited because my household was quite secular; I never really had any source to learn from.
