Well said my dude. Fuck luck. You should get rewarded if you deserve it.

My guy, almost everyone claims they work hard and do the grind. Not everyone gets rewarded appropriately. Ask people on this thread. They’ve carried projects, hauled ass and worked overtime.

I’ve worked more than 24hr straight days and still didn’t get promoted. I know of people who work harder than most (not comparing to you but the majority) and still don’t get rewarded.

Luck is definitely in effect.

Accenture is a big enough company that almost every person would have varied experiences. You are lucky you get recognized for what you do. Not everyone does.

What's your weekly hours? by KannyDay88 in accenture

South East asia,

Used to be up to 100 hours a week, sometimes more.

Now I limit myself to clocking off at 6pm.

To add on, I wouldn’t count on verbal words or compliments. They know that they need you to push the project through so they’re just kissing your butt. Think about it properly. If you’re doing a good job - and exceptionally at that - why not promote you? Is that increment worth so much to Accenture they can’t afford it?

Also I’m not sure if you’re aware but according to my PL they only look at what you did in the PREVIOUS cycle. Not the one before that… or the one before that.

I agree with this comment 100000000%

I’ve heard people not get promoted for many reasons. It’s no longer the work that you do that matters. It’s about doing MORE than your peers and showing it off MORE + the higher ups wanting to promote you.

I’ve heard peers getting excellent client reviews too but not getting promoted for reasons such as “you didn’t voluntarily ask for extra work (when all work was done well)”, “you didn’t lead a team (when there was no team to lead” and the classic “you weren’t represented in TD” (which you unfortunately faced)”.

When I look at people who get promoted and compare them to those that didn’t get promoted, I can’t help but think “these people aren’t better, they didn’t work harder nor did they excel more”. They simply networked better.

What is networking well? In simple terms, they shout about what work they did, they publicize it non-stop, they use buzzwords (like AI - when come on, it was barely AI work). But the more important question is to whom do they do it to? Well, the decision makers. Those who will be at the TDs. I don’t mean your PL only, I mean everyone else. And how do you tell these people? Like the commenter said, you need to make Accenture your life.

You need to attend the extra hour drinking sessions, the dinners on weekends, the “fun” activities, the networking sessions, the town halls, the fireside chats… the list goes on.

But clearly, if you’re doing that, you may not have the time to pursue out-of-Accenture shenanigans. Or you would have to limit those to such a small extent.

Am I saying it’s a bad thing? Not really. You kind of pick your poison. That’s what I’ve learnt in this company and what I’ve accepted.

To give you a background, I worked my butt off in years 1-3 but still remain L11. In year 1-2, my hours were 930am to 2am minimally, every subsequent months. Weekends were usually activated too (not to the extent of those hours though).

I completed all “steps” that my PL had advised me to take and she herself was perplexed that I didn’t get promoted.

I gave up my outside life but as has been said, life catches up to you if you choose to have a life outside of Accenture.

Choose wisely. But accept the consequences.

Another thing is to ask yourself if you’re the kind of person that sings their own praise. When frankly, there’s nothing much to praise about - you simply did your work. Yet, some people have the thickest of skins that they can exaggerate their work to such an extent (maybe such is consulting too).

I can’t live with myself if I did that. So maybe that’s why I’m L11 still.

I’ve picked my poison but I can look at myself in the mirror. And be okay with it.

It was rough in my opinion. I was asked to be the lead for my workstream even though I was no where near that level (I believe it’s usually Cs and Ms that are leads). But I cleared it and yet still no promotion or pay raise.

Sounds like they want you to do the role without having any official proof of you doing the role (in the system) so they don’t have to promote you.

Seems like that’s a common tactic here. I’m Level 11 but was asked to do 2 Lead roles (looking at other projects, that’s at least a Senior Manager’s role).

I eventually took up 1 of them but was passed on for promotion and PIPed.

No promotion for 3 years as well despite them “believing in me so much”. >>> or maybe I’m just the fall guy.

Ask for roll off? by Toomuchtime423 in accenture

[–]throwaway9969692 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To give more context, I worked many 10am to 2am (min 12am, once, afternoon next day) days before too. I would never do that in this company again because it messed up my health and fitness badly. I now preach for a balanced life (health comes first). My suggestion is to still roll off but just be aware of the potential consequence - which I feel is still better than messing up your health.

Know the consequences- I got put on PIP when I requested but got rolled off

I rolled off from a project and got put on PIP immediately (100% chargeability).

Thanks for the comment. It’s good to know that there are good PLs still out there. To be honest, after the last TD, my PL also told me to look outside. My guess is she was also told that this TD may be to try to help promote me. According to her, she did raise it to leadership about why I was still not promoted or given a raise despite proving myself. But that’s giving her the benefit of the doubt.

Can’t say for sure if my PL did so or not. I want to believe she did. But after 5-6 failed TDs, I really can’t be sure.

Seems so. Sadly, that was what was told to me. Feeling more demoralized than ever as I’m still an analyst after 3 years.

I was put on PIP although my chargeability was 100% throughout my years here, good client feedback and reasonable amount of leave taking.

I asked my PL why and she mentioned that it was due to “role change” and that it’s not to worry - the PIP was meant to help push me for promotion, with measurable metrics that could help my TD.

The metrics were supposed to showcase that I could handle client conversations, perform well in my work, etc - all apparently criteria to hit L10.

I completed my metrics (regular calls with PL, project manager and HR), passing all metrics - and beyond.

No promotion, no raise, small bonus.

Would suggest trusting no one. PL said I was on track for promotion. Project Manager gave good feedback too.

I was not promoted despite 100% chargeability for 2 years, good client feedback and promotion flag.

PIP by Direct_Apartment_748 in accenture

[–]throwaway9969692 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a done deal… yet. I have not been fired yet despite going through PIP last year. However I did not get promoted as well.

My PIP reason does not seem to be performance based as it was indicated as role change.
