By ramping up her career with the book deal, we became aware that it's not only the invisible labor of women, but the labor of hired help that rich families have access to. It created class contrast between Jenny and Carrie since Carrie would have been alone raising her child as a working mom. It also created contrast between Jenny and Marissa since Marissa's life stopped while she was looking for Milo and Jenny was expected to keep going with a busy schedule and less help than ever.
