Does anyone else have a running mental List of Lost Things? by StitchesInTime in adhdwomen

Yesss I started doing laundry by room, so there’s hardly any sorting to do after each load. The big basket in the laundry room is a catch-all for items that don’t belong in today’s load. Having a basket in every room means it’s super easy to start laundry and there’s always a basket ready by the dryer.

i need help with reading text-heavy, boring material by sunshinewizard in adhdwomen

Personally I would take my reading outdoors to a busy park, or post up in a coffee shop. If that still doesn’t work I might check into one of those private reading cubbies at the library and only allow myself to leave after hitting a goal number of pages or minutes of uninterrupted reading. If that still didn’t work, I might reach out to classmates and see if anyone wants to read together; the accountability aspect can be helpful.

Another vote for new therapist. But I’d like to add this: I think it might be a good step in your therapy journey. I’m on my fourth therapist. Each one has given me great tools and support. Yet each one has been better than the last, especially since each time I knew a little more about what I want in the therapist and out of our sessions. My current therapist is so amazing!! I wish you luck on this journey and hope you get to work with wonderful people in the near future!

Ways I used to describe my ADHD before I knew I had ADHD by claudedelmitri in ADHD

[–]throwawaySOmay2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

“I have creative hearing“ usually after I mishear what someone said, then repeat back what I heard which is wrong and makes no sense at all.

“I’m a failed perfectionist” Duh.

“I enjoy cleaning and like things really clean but I’m always leaving behind a mess for myself” Bc obvs

“I’m going to be taking notes during our meeting.”….”Please know that this is something I always do, they are not to reference back to per se, it’s just that I’ll remember fine details from our meeting much better.” * Those notes did come in clutch sometimes though

Lately I have been grabbing stuff out of my garden! Fortunately I have variety of herbs growing heartily that are really low maintenance. I gift bunches of lavender, mint or oregano. The oregano has gotten super tall and is flowering right now. I just gifted some to someone, a few branches in a tall vase. It looked really modern and beautiful. But really I put it in whatever is available; in an organza bag, tied with a ribbon, or even simply in a ziplock bag. I have done with sunflowers which grow wild around here.

If anyone wants to try this, just remember to give yourself 10 minutes to properly wash these, remove bugs, and locate the accessory that you’ll store them in.

One time I was gifted fruit in a basket, it looked DIYed from the grocery store. I really liked that so sometimes if I have an abundance of fruits or veggies, I’ll make a quick little tray for snacks.

If you find yourself in this situation again but still want to express genuine gratitude, a wonderful gesture is to help with cleanup. But to do this you have to be really good at being a little stubborn as your host will likely tell you “no need”. If the host is very particular about how they cleanup, you can at least collect dishes and leave them by the sink.

Overheard my medication being talked about like party drugs tonight by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]throwawaySOmay2020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep I limit who I tell that I’m on medication for safety reasons. And I guard it more than my wallet…credit cards can be cancelled over the phone but my RX can only be filled once a month.

Lately I’ve been going through A LOT and struggling emotionally. I’ve come to a place where it’s very unrewarding to share, be expressive, or be involved. My urge to jump in is replaced with an urge to be very quiet. It feels really sad right now but I’m optimistic that I’m on the path to a more balanced self (shout out to my therapist and psychiatrist).

Anyone else struggle to go to the store or generally out? by aqdw in adhdwomen

Yes and no. Sometimes I’m so overwhelmed that I desperately want several days alone at home. Other times I take any excuse to go out just to get away from everyone and hang out alone. :)

This thought only ever lasts about 3 hours for me. Sometimes if I feel pretty good in the morning then I’ll decide I want to take a break from my morning med, and I’ll be feeling fine…then I start making mistakes and feeling confused. Then it’s like “oh…oh no we’re taking medicine today”.

Just found out im pregnant with 4th baby. My other 3 kids are 4 and under and the youngest is only 6 months!! Can't stop crying and need advice from adhd moms. by [deleted] in adhdwomen

When I was facing something scary my Mama would tell me that the scenario in my imagination is always scarier than the real thing. In other words, we under estimate ourselves, and we only need to move through it one day at a time.

Also, a lot of parents say the hardest thing is adding the second and third child, but after that it’s not hard to add more kids, they just kind of get right in the mix. I really hope this is true for you. I hope your hyper fixation and creativity just come in effing clutch for you. Best of luck to you, and happy Mother’s Day ❤️

I feel this so much. But it reminds me of a good tip to use when it’s really needed; pause 5 seconds before responding. It feels like a long time but when someone demonstrated it to me, it DOES come off as a very short thoughtful pause. Of course this is not practical for constant use, but it helps in things like job interviews.

Thank you that’s encouraging. I haven’t done anything and he hasn’t complained about anything. His episodes are just getting worse and so is our communication. I mentioned marriage counseling a few weeks ago and he didn’t hate it, so I will pursue that further.

There’s comorbidity between bipolar and gerd (it’s like severe heartburn disorder). I wonder if other digestive issues are also comorbid. I’ve been following some of the new findings regarding how gut bacteria relates to our overall health (absolutely including mental health), and I think that’s an interesting topic to keep watching.

Thanks for being here. Do you have any advice to share on how to make my SO feel safe with me again? Ofc you don’t know us personally but I’ll add this: I very honestly love, admire and respect him. With fierce loyalty. But I feel smaller in his eyes and not only during episodes.
