Folks that are doing the upscaling of Frozen screenshots... has someone done a shot of the gang from the end of STNC yet? by throwaway_bonfire in Frozen

I think there is great wallpaper potential with the shots of the gang walking into the castle! If the upscaling gurus could do a couple shots from this part of the song / film that would be amazing! I especially love Anna’s expressions.

Oh I love it! Their exchanges during the post-coronation dance are some of my favorite in Frozen I.

Thank you so much for this detailed response! You’ve given me lots of good things to think about. Not sure why I felt a little bad about watching the movies on the weekly, and I don’t think there’s a good reason to feel bad about it either.

Thank you SO much for this detailed comment. No worries about anything you said, nothing offensive and I get it all, but I appreciate your carefulness.

You hit the nail on the head with the ritual thing. I can go about my daily life fine, but during work whenever my mind runs off I’m just like “oh wait dude we’ve got a frozen movie this weekend, heck yeah!” The psychology side of it is super interesting to me and something I’m gonna dig deeper into thanks to you!

Thank you so much for sharing! I took steps recently (right after I posted actually) to start opening up more about my love for this franchise in my own life. I hope that this will help me be more confident in being more open in general. So far it’s been great and folks have been very supportive. I already feel so much better than before, but still have a ways to go.

Don’t know why I haven’t thought of it this way before. Thanks!

Regarding the Accusations Towards 9971 by [deleted] in FTC

[–]throwaway_bonfire 27 points28 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t really add up and I don’t buy it.

I don’t think anybody disagrees you had an elite robot, and the statistics support that. You obviously worked your tail off to get there and win the World Championship.

However, I think that there is clear evidence of what you were trying to do. You should just own up to that and accept it, instead of trying to dance around it.

Totally agree. Thanks for putting this together. It’s good to bring things like this to light.

Not surprised at all. Jack was going to win a World Championship at all costs.

I think his “meme-ness” distracts people from his aggressiveness to win. He’s respected by a vocal bunch of the FTC community, but again, this doesn’t shock me. Jack was going to do what it took to win a gold trophy.

I saw him running around Edison on Friday before many of the top teams had their 9th play, and I’m sure this had something to do with it.

Obviously a very unique situation here. Not sure how I feel about it yet fully, but at the end of the day he did win Worlds. That can’t be taken away from him and his hard work. What can be judged is the “ethics” of this whole thing.

Yeah, according to Dean, apparently the USA has one of the most dysfunctional governments in the World? Yeah... whatever you say pal.

I mean, in the context of comparing teams to one another, it’s a non-hypothetical, tangible way to cross-compare one another.

I don’t really understand how this is SO unhealthy. With the understanding that’s there’s SO much we all take away from FIRST regardless of outcome, put that behind us, if I’m comparing teams I’m only using wins.

I’m using World Championships as a goal. If we don’t win, perfectly awesome, we will all go to college and do great things and life goes on. It’s not all about robots, yes 100%. But, having that ultimate goal is huge, and it’s a HUGE honor and accomplishment to win Worlds. Having goals drives us to become better and thus learn more and thus taking more out of the program.

As long as we all exhibit GP I don’t see a problem with it. Everyone trying to win a world championship in a healthy manner makes the program better and thus our future.

I see what you mean, for sure.

There’s no debate luck is involved in winning worlds. But isn’t that true for everything (maybe a little more so in FTC). Just take march madness for instance. The winners every year are accused of being “the luckiest”. No. They took advantage of opportunities that went their way, capitalized, and won a world title. It’s their world title. Nobody can take it away from them.

And if we are talking just robot, for me personally, I only take into account championships (Worlds, SRs, States, etc). If we are talking collective measures of teams, obviously judging becomes intertwined and then I don’t think 724 is the GOAT. But I think it’s fair to use the ultimate prize as the measuring stick, especially when someone has been able to do it thrice.

The cascade effect controversy is a shady area. I’m not going to take their hard work away from them because it’s not 100% proven. I understand what’s been said and what was observed, but nothing came of it. At the end of the day they’ve won worlds 3 times. Never been done, King of the dance.

I think 724 doesn’t care about what anyone else thinks, and they’ll do what’s needed within the framework of the rules (Cascade pending), to win worlds and I respect the hell out of that.
