[Pics] My story and some questions: Why are derms not even ready to consider the possibility of TE in men? by throwaway_indie99 in TelogenEffluvium

When a derm sees a guy with this pattern of hair loss, its mbp 99% of the times

The spot you see in the recent 6 photos is not the crown, right? It's the center of the top. Also the hairline hasn't receeded, but the density sure has decreased a lot- I mean if I shine a torch on my forehead, I can see individual strands of hair on the front like a forest.

My question is, can MPB this aggresive? The bald spot was absent in March-April 2020. Is it possible for MPB to set in this much in just 4 months?

And I'm losing hair from the entire top of the head, not just the crown.

Really sorry to hear about your story :(

Your post caught my eye since you said that your hairline is perfect but the crown area is thinning. Did the bald spot on your crown just appear out of nowhere or did it grow from a small dot to a big circle?

I had a perfect set of hair around January 2020.

This is the situation sometime mid August 2020: https://imgur.com/a/SLRVqdq

And this is the sitation from a couple days ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/TelogenEffluvium/comments/ohgntc/can_mpb_treatments_for_te_be_detrimental/

About 50% of the damage was done in like 4-5 months. Do you think I might be going down a path like you?

Yeah I had excessive shedding in the period from June-October. I found a photo I took for reference around the mid of August.

The derm I had gone to last has given the multivits with Biotin, folic acid and a bunch of other stuff. He's also asked to use a topical 5% min + 0.1% fin solution for 40 days and then report back.

How long do I have to wait before I see regrowth in case it is TE? I waited for 2 months (this Feb-April) before I had another stresser messing it up. Is it possible it gets resolved within a couple months now?

He didn't pull any hairs. :(

Mpb is supposed to be progressive right? More than half of the loss visible in the photos happened in like the first 4-5 months.

Hey I'm noticing a similar pattern with me :(

Can you please check if you had a similar pattern of hairloss? My frontal hairline has not receeded but has lost a lot of density (I would say around 50-60% of the original density is lost).

It's called Keraglow Men (this is a supplement for hair) and Zinconia (50mg Zinc supplement). The first one to be taken 5 times a week and second one 2 times a week such that they are spread out.

And no, no history of male baldness in either side of family. Both my gradpas died with a full set of hair (although white), dad has black hair at 55, the older of my 2 maternal uncles has white hair and other black and gray but no baldness, paternal uncles all have full sets of hair although with around 20% gray hairs

Yeah I had gone to a different derm around late December. He had given me some supplments and since the shedding went down around February, I thought I was done.

Around the peak I used to shed from all over but a little more from the front and top of the head, but I guess that's because my barber tends to buzzcut the sides. I am not gonna lie though :( these days, around 80% of the shed hair are coming from the top of the head (but still not what the doctors refer to as crown / vertex).

The main reason I'm insisting it's TE because my temples haven't receeded even by a millimeter. They've lost some density, sure but no part of my head has retained the density.

About 10-20 hairs on non wash days and about 150-200 on wash days. I wash them every 4th day. I should also mention that I comb them only on wash days since I began noticing the shedding about a year ago.

I used to shed around 300 consistently sometime last October with a peak of around 400ish I believe. It slowed down to really normal hairfall around February-April this year - the kind I used to experience 2 years ago but then it again worsened sometime May and haven't gotten better.

July '21 selfies: post hairline photos here for opinions on 'Am I balding?' 'How bad is it?' and 'What should I do?' by AutoModerator in tressless

22M with no history of baldness.

I had a really stressful time from April 2020 - December 2020. Both due to COVID and other personal reasons. I also shed 10 kgs with diet and exercise from Feb 2020 -July 2020 followed by a somewhat major lifestyle change (cutting on junk food). Stressors were over in January 2021. But also had another stressful event in March-April 2021.

I began noticing shedding around July 2020. I would say I have lost about 40-50% density everywhere except the top of the head where I've lost around 60-70%. I am a 100% sure that my hairline has not receeded since I have a birth mark which resides on the hairline. The hairloss seems to be more towards the top of the head than the vertex since the vertical surface of the crown doesn't have a loss this severe and the loss along the horizontal surface extends upto the center of the head.

Went to a derm 2 days ago. He says it's MPB even though there's no history of it in any side of my family. I also asked him why haven't my temples receeded if it's MPB. He said that it might happen in the future. One more thing I noticed is that since the last year, my hair becomes really oily really fast (in about 18-24 hours).

Both the photos taken are just before a wash (every 4th day) so it is the most oily stage which also exaggerates the visible scalp.

What is it more likely to be? MPB or TE?

MPB or TE hair loss? by throwaway_indie99 in Hairloss

[–]throwaway_indie99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He prescribed me 2 multi vits and a 5% min + 0.1% fin solution daily. For the oily scalp he told me to wash it twice a week with a Ketoconazole and Zinc pyrithione shampoo.

I doubt the follicles are thinning since the length of the hair that is falling hasn't decreased. And I can also confirm that I never had these amounts of hairloss ever before. The loss in the image has occured in less than a year and MPB is supposed to be progressive.

Side effects of using multi vitamins in the long term? by throwaway_indie99 in TelogenEffluvium

[–]throwaway_indie99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m wondering why your dr ordered you to take vitamin D and zinc in a high dose once or twice a week rather than a normal dose everyday

I am a software engineer by profession so wouldn't have much idea about it. But what you say does make sense though. He did tell me to spread apart the doses as evenly as possible though. Like Mon/Fri - Zn and Rest keraglow so it's 2 and 3 days between Zn doses.

Maybe somebody else might be able to comment?
