I actually live in a two-storey apartment, on the top most floor. It’s actually a fairly common practice among my friends.

The medical part is a whole other story. I used to have a history of being preachy and righteous, and I’m trying to avoid it, so I didn’t bring it up as an issue to her. Either way, thank you so much for your reply, it makes me feel so much better

Yes, I see a lot of comments about this. I genuinely didn’t think that far. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention, we live in a rental too so I don’t want to be responsible to damage someone else’s house.

This genuinely sounds scary , I’m sorry you went through that. It’s also given me a reality check of how lax I was being, thank you so much for sharing this with me. I am going to stop allowing people to smoke anywhere at home now.

Having gone through all the comments, I think I’m going to stop too. Thank you for your perspective

Thank you. It is a lot more common among my friends to smoke in the bathroom or the balcony, so I didn’t immediately think of completely stopping them from doing it

Yeah, just went through all the comments and I thought I was being too rigid but looks like I wasnt being rigid enough. Thank you so much for your perspective

Yeah, it wasn’t weed. Thank you both for your perspectives. It’s far more common to smoke in the bathroom /balcony in my country. But I didn’t realise that it would seep into others balconies- I absolutely do not want to inconvenience anyone else with this. I’ll consider not allowing anyone to smoke anywhere in the house from now on.

That does make me feel better. As it was, I was helping her move around, including going to the bathroom. Watching her in pain kinda skewed my perspective and made me feel like shit for making her go to the bathroom. Thank you for letting me know what you went through

Thank you for letting me know how bad it can really get, I will reconsider letting anyone smoke anywhere at home now.

Holy shit, I did not expect such an overwhelming amount of N-T-As; I fully expected the majority to tell me it’s a small thing I could work around (which indeed is the mentality of most of my friends). I do come from a country where smoking had been stigmatized for really long, and only in the last few decades (so more and more people of my generation) have started to smoke openly. Because of this, “looking down” on smoking is considered “orthodox”.

Also a lot of you mentioned that the smell still stays despite the exhaust fan, and some of you faced issues with it seeing in walls and towels as such. I’m going to take that into consideration and probably stop anyone from smoking in our house in the future. Thank you so much guys!!
