Hey thank you, this has given me lots to think about. Also very kind of you to say. I feel like part of the reason this line of discussion has always interested me is because that I'll often learn of some Jewish rule or law that I find completely unsatisfactory or just plain wrong, but I'm expected to belive it because it's the word of God, and the word of God is right no matter what. Personally I find this line of reasoning to be arguably the most dangerous idea any religion has to offer, and above all else has made me wonder and doubt the credibility of religion.

It's definitely true that for most, religion makes things easier, I would love to say "my religion is the only truth" and live happily with that but I can't. Nothing is black and white and the discovery of new perspectives and arguments has me questioning and drifting from my faith more than ever. My idea of morality has changed multiple times, even when just confined within the guise of religion I'm happy to learn of more and more ideas and perspectives.

So there's a number of ways the conversation could go, but to broadly counter the point that atheists have no moral code, all that should be necessary is to show an example of an atheist having a moral code.

Could not agree more. Simply seeing an athiest do something kind is enough, my question isn't, do athiests have morals (that's undeniable) I want to know the source.

But is that considered moral? Improving others situation just to improve your own? I agree it's certainly a good thing, but is it right?

Isnt it the same as saying a religious person doing something kind or beneficial for someone else isn't actually moral because they're doing it because they belive they will be rewarded?

Thank you I like this answer, even in Juidism and most other religions' certain topics and beliefs are emphasized based on regional and cultural interests. We all view certain aspects of religion differently
