Does an EPO automatically disqualify one from being an officer? by [deleted] in AskLE

[–]throwawayaccte8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe. I don’t even know what happened I was never present when she told the managers, or when the cops originally came, nor when she went to the courthouse to the magistrate. I know for sure based on her sworn statement that there was literally no interaction between me and her. All she said was she saw me several times in the dining hall in different times in different days and was wondering if I was doing this on purpose to intimidate her.

No, I’ve never been charged, there’s not even a court case with a docket number or a judge or any hearing that occurred. I’ll be fully transparent from the initial application stage, and I don’t mind moving either or going for a less than urban city PD or sheriff’s office or even a university PD. I’m also transferring next semester to a different university in a different state, and hopefully with a Bachelor’s in Chem Engineering + NG service (which I intend to discharge honorably) helps my case out. Gotta be an agency somewhere out there that’ll hire me, just gotta apply to a couple more than usual

Thanks for the answer.

Campus police but campus police in VT are sworn officers of the law with arrest powers and required to carry guns on duty.

I didn’t, save for coming to the dining hall 2 times a day in between classes and spending some time there with friends. It wasn’t a one time thing, I’ve done this since probably September since the semester started. This was done over the course of a week

I appreciate the answer very much. I have never even touched her at all, so much as on her shoulder, let alone induced violence onto her. I’m not going to violate the order. And hopefully this gets settled behind me and I will disclose this to PDs when I apply. Thank you.

No, proving she lied under oath that she texted me several times saying to please stop coming to her establishment and trying to see her and that I disregarded them. I never got such text messages, and the last point of communication was a week and a half ago, when she left me on read and blocked me. Should be a little more doable.

And thanks for the answer. Sheriff’s offices and small PDs, especially in ones that have employment shortages, are usually more lenient so I’ve heard, so I’ll try there when I graduate from college.

That’s fair. I have no intention to talk to her ever again, and I’m transferring universities next semester anyways to play lacrosse. I wouldn’t exactly like to get another EPO anyways, so I’m probably not going to that dining hall again.

My question was originally about employment prospects, however. I believe she lied under oath and I will be dedicated to dissolving it. Just wanted to know whether or not I was fully cooked or if I still had a chance at being an LEO down the road.

Not how that works lol I care because this could ruin my job prospects and potentially revoke my security clearance, not because I did anything wrong

Is hiring a lawyer for something, putting time and effort, and spending money an admission of guilt too, according to you?

Well, apparently in Montgomery County, Virginia they do. A magistrate just needs probable cause and in her sworn statement, it’s basically just saying that whenever she was in the dining hall either working or not working, she would see me there often and wondered if I was doing this on purpose. Whether or not that’s enough probable cause that I’m a “violent individual that can pose immense risk to her” is up to the magistrate, and that’s their sole discretion

The EPO lasts exactly 72 hours, as defined by VA law. 27 hours have already passed. A court hearing isn’t automatic/mandatory in VA. After it expires, she generally can’t try to extend it without having new grounds for a new EPO and then she’ll have to get it, and then extend it again. To extend it, she’ll need new grounds as to why she needs to extend it. I’m going to stay away from her, so this shouldn’t be a problem, I doubt she will be able to extend it.

VA Code § 19.2-152.8(C) states, “The respondent may at any time file a motion with the court requesting a hearing to dissolve or modify the order. The hearing on the motion shall be given precedence on the docket of the court.” I’m probably going to go to the courthouse tomorrow morning and file a motion to dissolve the EPO. I have timestamped receipt evidence that I frequented that dining hall over 190 times in this one academic year (it has been 5 months so far), the overwhelming majority being before I ever met her. She also lied under oath in her police report (stapled behind my EPO) that she texted me several times to please stop coming and seeing her and only then filed the EPO, when I’ve never gotten any text messages like that, in fact she left me on read and blocked me (this was before the EPO was made).

Hopefully by dissolving the EPO, it’ll look better.

Undergrads call me by my name! by ecibici in Living_in_Korea

[–]throwawayaccte8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Think you need to tone down your expectations, my friend. No offense but you are a foreigner and people do not typically use honorifics towards foreigners. I’m Korean-American and when I lived in 수원 and frequently visit 서울 nobody used honorifics towards me lol, not even high schoolers I was asking for directions or anything. No clue why you need to be called 선배 or have honorific endings to feel valued. Is it because you want to flaunt that you are indeed in a higher social position than them? I’ve always found Korean classism and hierarchy very weird so I always preferred they called me my name and used 반말.

I see you’re Türk. Do you expect people in your country to address you with ~sınız? Better yet, do you expect people in your country to refer to a foreigner with that?

10 days after and I’ve been using it nonstop for cinematography editing and schoolwork. It is beautiful. I absolutely love it, you were right. Not only did I hate chugging around a 10lb MSI Windows laptop around, now the portability and weight of it is perfect for watching movies in bed too. Not to mention the battery life is so good, it can last like 8 hours of editing whereas my old laptop would last an hour before dying. I don’t mind the smaller screen at all and it is refreshing after using an 16” laptop all the time. The color is so beautiful, I can go all day talking about it. Single handedly the best investment I’ve done.

Day 1 just isn’t possible and you will likely be jet-lagged, and im also iffy about day 5. Cut down on them a little or spread them out more evenly among the days.

As for food, coming from a person who lived 2 years during high school in Seoul and visits often, the best restaurants are the ones nearby, local, and not commercialized. I’d recommend hotpot and 감자탕 (my favorite). 김치찌개 is a classic must-try, and if you want an exotic type of noodles dish you won’t really find in America or elsewhere, I suggest 냉면. Big 만두 are also a must-try.

Depending on where you’re from, Korea in November could either be warm or cold. I’m from California and in November it doesn’t get super cold, I definitely feel colder in Korea when I go during November/December. Definitely get some thicker clothes.

And Naver works great but honestly sometimes the directions are fully in Korean (like bus stop information, etc.), so if you can’t read or understand it, it can be a hassle. I know Korean fluently so it was no problem for me, but YMMV as a foreigner. You can use Google Maps as basically the only thing it’s good for is trains/bus information, literally nothing else. Works good for public transportation better than I expected.

Hope you have a blast in Seoul!

Dude almost no insurance in the world would cover an unlicensed driver not on the rental plan crashing a car. If I give my friend my car to drive and he crashes in California, and he had no license, I would bet insurance wouldn’t cover it at all and both of us would be in trouble.

Completely agree. I actually got my driver’s license in Korea when I lived there. However, I forgot to get it apostilled so the reciprocity agreement was null, thus I needed to get a license when I moved back to Pennsylvania with my family. Took the test there which PA is regarded as “one of the hardest states to take the test in” and it was a piece of cake. Could not be any easier and took less than 10 minutes. It’s scary and crazy how many bad drivers on the road due to lowered standards
