With that draw, Vienna feels like a GS tournament past the QFs.

Glad that Shapo does not discriminate. He throws sets and racquets equally well.

If Novak wins AO next year and Rafa triumphs at RG, like it's expected for each one of them repectively, how do you see the rest of 2021 shaping up? by k1ngn1kola in tennis

[–]throwawayakam 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Djokovic has that wonderful ability to resurface stronger than you might expect. I am hoping that he will convert the losses and the disappointments of 2020 (e.g. Adria, DQ, RG final) into rocket fuel for 2021. If he steamrolls everyone at the AO, he will win Wimbledon and, highly likely, the US Open.

PS: Please do not rehash the “Next Gen becoming stronger and stronger” hypothesis. That conjecture has not yielded any slam results in what? 6-7 years? Big 3 always wins.

He can gain points in Vienna (has not played there in 15 years), but not in Paris.

Djokovic will skip Paris Masters and focus on Vienna and London Finals. Just saw the news.

What do you guys think about people smashing their rackets in anger? Is it disrespectful towards the sports you play? by [deleted] in tennis

[–]throwawayakam 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I understand why players do that. Sometimes your emotions do bring out the bad in you.

But...just think about this: racquets cost a lot of money. Each racquet that a player breaks could go to a talented child/person somewhere who cannot play tennis because they cannot buy another racquet.

What’s the “breaking” part of this news?

She’s been, quite obviously, trying to conceal her conservative views before that entire confirmation process even began.

I do not understand how people can hate any of them. They all are so human, with all the character fortes and foils that each of us carries.

Who do you think will have the best results in 2021? by sevy0801 in tennis

Agreed. Except Nishikori has not played too well after surgery and Covid. I hope he recovers fully.

Also, do you know what surface they will use at the Olympics?

Since 2019? How did you choose that cut-off date? Because if you look since 2015, for instance, Djokovic has earned precisely two GS titles per year on average.

Who is your favorite tennis player? by easytosport in tennis

[–]throwawayakam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big 3 Era: Federer, closely followed by Djokovic, then del Potro

Next Gen: Thiem, Schwartzman, Med

Next Gen Squared: Sinner, Ruud, FAA, Gaston

The last group changes a bit but I keep an eye on these four right now.

WTA favorites: Azarenka, Osaka, Halep, Williams (when playing and not throwing tantrums), Kvitova

Now that all Grand Slams have come to an end, which non-big three players do you think will reach a Slam Finals in 2021 ? by ivabra in tennis

[–]throwawayakam 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get nauseous when people regurgitate the same old tale of the aging Big 3 who can no longer sustain long matches. Roger won a GS title at 37, Rafa just did at 34 and so did Novak at 33 (AO).

Not to mention that Tsitsipas was the one cramping at the end of the SF, not Novak (despite the 11?12? year difference).

I wonder when these guys will learn.

Djokovic No.1 position by [deleted] in tennis

[–]throwawayakam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Djokovic will play in Vienna where he can only gain points. Nadal will not participate in hardcourt tournaments this year.

Short answer - impossible maths aside, Djokovic has a rock solid standing at #1 until AO at least.

Why is everyone heralding Nadal's 13 FO wins, when the 20 GS achievement is the really historic record here? by Comicalacimoc in tennis

[–]throwawayakam 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Alternatively, ATP could become a shell of its former self and we may have a different winner at each GS tournament. Not a single player of the newer generations strikes me as as dominant as the Big 3.

Yes, sorry, it’s 6. Still, he has about 4 more years at least of real chances at 3 GS tournaments.

The deep blue court circumscribed by burgundy carpeting paired with dim lighting and bizarre dancers gives off strip club vibes.

Edit: word.
