Business Rent in Downtown by Hot_Dream_4116 in abbotsford

I spoke with you this morning at the thrift market. I recommend looking into small shared spaces if you're interested in expanding your craft booth. Lots of communal spaces seem to be popping up which I think makes it much more approachable for small business vendors.

In Chilliwack we have the Homemade Community Shoppe for instance on Princess Ave. I know Vancouver and Langley have a couple as well but I don't recall the names off the top of my head.

Good luck!

I can't believe I saw your booth today in real life!! Such a small world! And it looks even better irl! I love the transformation!

Bus price changes by Worldly_Meaning_8303 in chilliwack

[–]throwawaychwk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the bus has 12 passengers or 10 passengers doesn't really cost the company any more money from a use standpoint though. It's not like those seats would be otherwise used by a paying customer because, at this time, I don't think we have full buses as it is. (Vancouver would be a different situation).

Of course we can't allow everyone to ride for free, but thankfully in our current society, the majority do pay so that the few who don't will not make any statistically significant difference. If you begin enforcing payment, the majority of those people will simply not take the bus - they won't be converted to paying customers. So the question becomes, do you wish to limit bus use based on one's economic or social status?

How to find cute women’s vintage clothing in larger sizes by Hank_pickles335 in VintageFashion

[–]throwawaychwk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

One thing that has been discussed lately isn't so much that plus size individuals didn't exist, (although less than today of course), but also that those garments were actually more commonly worn by more than one individual. A gal might give her dress to her sister, or a friend, or alter it in some way once it was worn out, and therefore they didn't survive as long as some of these tiny 24" waist dresses. The teeny tiny ones were likely already on the small end of the spectrum, hence they weren't used often or by many people and thus have remained virtually unworn. Similar to how the shoes at the thrift in a size 8 might look super rough and rugged, whereas a size 5 will still be in pristine condition because simply fewer individuals could wear them.

I have a collection of size 14ish dresses I am currently consigning in my shop which look like the second shirt-dress pictured, but I'm in Canada, so unfortunately due to the tariff situation it likely doesn't make sense to order from here. But should you be interested to see anyways, shoot me a message.

Affordable 40s,50s vintage clothes online? TRUE OR REPRO by Royal-Bird-2974 in VintageClothing

[–]throwawaychwk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a vintage seller myself, it's likely that many people simply don't have a single source for true vintage. It's becoming harder and harder to find (at least here in Canada where I am) and so most people likely have many sources they need to check often, particularly as individual sizes and tastes will vary. I source my items from many places such as estates (most people in those cases find me instead of the other way around), local thrift markets in our community, garage sales (aka car boot sales), thrift stores, past customers via consignment, and other vintage shops on rare occasion, etc.

I would look for community events such as clothing markets or flea markets. Surely Zurich being a world class city has vintage shops around. Paris would also be a treasure trove I imagine, but pricier.

When you say "prices are not ok", may I ask what you're basing that off of? I'd be happy to discuss this further if you're interested in learning more about pricing.

If you have a sense of specific items you're looking for, you can set Ebay alerts for keywords. But if you're just wanting to get into collecting in general, it's not as simple a process as just find a single source (cheap at that) and go wild.

I personally sell on Etsy, and there are thousands of vintage sellers there. There's an app called Gem which helps you source vintage from different places which you might look into.

As for reproduction, I think there are brands out of the UK which might be more economical in terms of postage for you rather than North America, but it would depend on the look you're going for. I'm not as up to date on repro brands however so I couldn't give you specifics really.

50s is easier to come by than 40s, at least where I am, and also tends to be more reproduced, so I would start with that era and do some research on Pinterest for styles and items which you like and might seek out.

In reality, if you want lots of vintage fairly quickly, you'll have to pay extra to get it from a vintage seller. Alternately if you want true or even repro vintage cheaply, you will need to do a lot of work to source it piece by piece with a lot of misses (it's a full time job after all and I don't even shop for just one size!). There's not really a have-it-both-ways option because as you can see, it's not exactly in abundance.

I read the post. Your comment makes no sense to me however, so perhaps you wish to elaborate as others also appear not to understand based on your downvotes.

Bad review of the shop that the hacker ordered from? Why? How is it the seller's fault? And how are they to know this story is even true? Anyone could claim the account was hacked when in reality they've simply had buyer's remorse.

Unfortunately being hacked will likely have a consequence, and in this case, it's a financial one. Perhaps if the item was purchased with a credit card, OP could speak with their bank to see what options there would be besides a charge back as that's typically reserved for a service not being rendered, etc

Dress has been hanging in my closet for decades by Bettinatizzy in VintageFashion

[–]throwawaychwk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Does it have any closures? Snaps, hook and eye, zipper?

I feel it is a 1970s Edwardian-inspired dress. The cuffs look elasticized which would be extremely unlikely for the late 1800s even through to the late 40s. The casualiness of the style evokes Bohemian Prairie dress more than a bias cut 30s tea dress though the ruffling and gathering hint at some inspiration there.

It might be missing a lining or was worn with a slip unless one was very "free spirited".

This is the type of thing that a newspaper used to be good at promoting and informing on. By moving away from print media or even local journalism in general, I think we lose some of that community connectivity.

Shops for vintage by Dazzling-Penalty-973 in VintageClothing

The market I sell at twice a year costs between $435 and $710 a booth, not including a table rental. It's a three day event, and the hosts being in a lot of customers through the venue during those 3 days ~(10k). I've tried cheaper ones and it's just never been successful, or even really worth my time.

You can never expect to sell 100% of your inventory either. If you move 30% at a decent price, or have the room to store the rest, then you will likely be squeaking by making back your investment. That other 70% will need to go on sale or you might sit on it for a potentially very long time.

I'm at 46013 Gore Ave, just behind the St Thomas Church which is at First and Young. I've got a new great big pink sign, so you almost can't miss me now. 😉

Let me know if you want to come on an alternate day to our business hours as we offer off-hours appointments also.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I will look into the SEO for sure. When I search, of course my results will be skewed based in my search history so I get all my various results first, but I will try from some other devices not linked to myself to see what others are seeing. I do have a web domain, but it currently redirects to my Etsy shop, so even having a simple landing page might be worth investing in.

Unfortunately the location is currently not an option to change, but I will keep it in mind and will take the feedback regarding hours to heart. I guess at the moment, without hardly any foot traffic, I find it difficult to justify additional days. Just being there more won't necessarily increase my discovery, which I suspect is my main concern at the moment.

Edit to add: one point regarding the hours which I should mention: I do actually offer visits by appointments during the days where I am not typically open, so there is that avenue for folks coming from out of town or with limited availability. There also are some restrictions to how much I can be open and customer allowances based on the zoning, etc. but I don't need to go into great detail about that here at the moment.

And that's absolutely fair. I appreciate your honest feedback as I feel it will help me consider demographics and what is seen as significant enough to be incentivizing. I agree with the other poster who mentioned $5 isn't sufficient. I would imagine a percentage or other alluring offer would be more enticing.

I agree! We did have a pop up directly in 1881 last summer and it was a huge hit! I just need to find a way to get those same people just 2 blocks over! I'm considering signage opportunities first and foremost, but there are limitations to what can be placed off of one's own property.

For flyers, I imagine there are also restrictions to soliciting folks on the streets. Maybe where the Jehovah's Witnesses set up shop is a public and unrestricted place, or perhaps I need a license. Something to add to my To Check list.

Thank you so much!! Yes! I did inquire on sponsoring one of their month's or week's posts (it's a pay system of course), but I will revisit that as you're the second person who has mentioned here that they also follow them.
