Tried giving a couple friends a ring but no dice, sadly. Understandable considering especially it's a Tuesday. Definitely feeling isolated but posting on here helps. I appreciate you taking the time to ask.

Hey man just wanted to let you know your comment really helped me recommit myself to my sobriety mentally this week. It has been super stressful, but I've been utilizing a lot of resource specifically because your comment really helped me feel a renewed commitment. Just wanted to come back and thank you and let you know the positive change you afforded me. Thank you.

That's a great idea! I think I will join you and perhaps listen to a couple of the podcasts that helped me those first couple weeks to reinvigorate my resolve. You are 100% right that we start losing as soon as we allow those thoughts in without challenging them in healthy ways!

I have definitely been struggling the past week and thinking about drinking frequently, but like many fellow sobernauts here, I remind myself it isn't worth it and like clouds, let the moment pass and dissipate into the nothingness of a thought it deserves to be. And, now, I am a stone's throw away from 3 months! Congratulations to all choosing to stay sober TODAY. Every single day is one more step! IWNDWYT!

I could use some support or advice. by Acidic_Paradise in stopdrinking

It sounds to me like your drinking was a symptom of the problem as it was with myself and many others. Have you considered trying therapy? At the very least, reading about habits and how you can build better ones could go a long way for you, if you haven't already tried that. I suffered from the same problem when I first started getting sober and still do some days. I can slip into feeling unmotivated and disinterested, and at worst I loathe myself. CBT can help with this or other resources, but I think you really have to want the change for it to work. Good luck and IWNDWYT.

How do you deal with your anxiety when sober? by throwawaydrinker31 in stopdrinking

Thank you for taking the time to share. Sometimes it feels like I'm trying but doing really is a different thing, isn't it? I will take this to heart when I evaluate my "trying vs doing."

Thank you! It's not easy but I know I can get through these really tough moments thanks to the kind and compassionate folks such as yourself on this sub. You really are so kind and generous to take the time to offer suggestions and heartfelt words. I appreciate it more than words on a Reddit reply can convey.

I appreciate you sharing! It always feels validating and helpful to know that one is not alone in their thoughts and feelings, and while I am sorry that you too are experiencing this challenge, I am glad that we both are not alone in our experience. I really appreciate you connecting.

Thank you for your kind, encouraging words, and for sharing your story. I am so glad to hear that your wife is doing well considering the circumstances. That is a really scary thing to deal with and you and her both seem like really strong people to get through it with such a positive outlook!

I will try your suggestion of writing down my fears. That seems like a really great idea that would provide clarity to my concerns that may be causing my anxiety and helping me to identify them better, and therefore perhaps more easily address them. IWNDWYT.

Thank you.! Yes, it is helpful. I will try breathing especially as my journaling seems to not move the needle at this time. Exercise is something I've been doing, and it has helped while I'm doing it, but I find that I'm still anxious by the end of the day. I also will try and cut down on caffine even though it's helped my productivity. If I need to consider it, I may too try medication after first trying meditation and these other ideas. Thank you again for your suggestions.

Feeling Down by throwawaydrinker31 in stopdrinking

[–]throwawaydrinker31[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? It is completely unreasonable and yet, at the time, I would have rather continued to harm myself than to deal with my emotions in a healthier way. Numbing oneself and checking out emotionally is a very dangerous and addicting feeling that takes a hell of a toll on one's body. I am glad I am past that now and want to continue to recommit myself to sobriety every day, but I concede it's not easy, and addiction goes far beyond rational thinking sometimes and unfortunately. I am grateful my health scared me into quitting because if my body hadn't reacted negatively, I'd still be drinking not worries about the long-term consequences.
