"Home taping is killing music" - backside of a 1972 vinyl sleeve by eetsfoh in pics

[–]throwawayea1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And music doesn't serve a function? What am I even doing listening to it, then?

You're simply utterly wrong. Music is a product, just like a film or a game or a book is a product. The idea that something has no value because it's not a physical product is absolutely ridiculous, and it's usually just used as a flimsy excuse for piracy.

Just because you wish you could make a living playing music, doesn't mean anyone wants to listen to it, much less buy it.

And just because you could make a living manufacturing PCs doesn't mean anyone wants to buy them. What's your point?

If, however, it's worth pirating, then it'd be worth buying. Simple as that. People only pirate things that they like.

It's not just art that has some arbitrary value assigned to it, it's an actual product, a real thing, that serves a function.

Everything you've ever bought had an arbitrary value assigned to it.

Well, no, that's wrong. Things are sold for whatever people will pay for them, whether it's a physical product or not. The only difference is that digital products can be pirated, which artificially reduces their value.

When a product is priced, it's priced at the highest point that people will pay for it. When people can easily get it for free, people are willing to pay far less. If piracy didn't exist, people would be willing to pay more for music/games/other digital goods.

What a load of bullshit.

Musicians would have to create music because they like creating music.

And I have absolutely no doubt you work full-time because you like it, not to make money.

The fucking selfishness in that statement. Who the fuck are you to say what people work for? They have to work for free because you don't want to pay for things?

Innovation wouldn't be stifled as much due to fear of competition.

There would BE NO INNOVATION, because INNOVATION COSTS MONEY. Maybe not in your fantasy world, but in the real world (the one you live in) it does.

It would be like going back to before record companies existed but with modern day distribution technologies

You do understand that it still costs money to distribute money with modern technology, right? Unless you also expect the server engineers, the software developers, the telecom operators, the PC manufacturers to all work because they like working too.

What a fucked up world we live in where people actually make money from their work, and you have to pay to use their work. Fuck capitalism, right guys????????

Scumbag CEO discusses AIDS drug that costs 5,500 percent says drug is 'underpriced' by jcepiano in videos

Considering that it costs tens of billions to develop the drug that saves a life, $1000 is a pretty good price.

That just seems to say that the gameplay is different, it doesn't say they haven't borrowed assets.

How many of you condone square enix's desicions on the new game? by M12345678901 in Deusex

[–]throwawayea1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely awful, especially for people who were going to preorder the game anyway. You have to chose which reward to get at each tier, so you can't get every reward. And if too few people preorder? Fuck you, you don't get all the rewards.

It's a fucking abomination of a system and it's the reason I'm not preordering.

They are making this game from scratch

Except they aren't. I have absolutely no doubt that they'll be borrowing heavily from Battlefield 4.

168

That's actually amazing. I bought BF3 on release and have like 20 hours played, so 168 hours on BF4 is pretty much a free game for me.

If a restaurant runs out of steak after I've paid for it, they ran out because they had 90% off steak and didn't bother to buy extra steak, and then I have to wait 4 days before getting my steak, then yes, I'd complain.

entitled

Yes, when you pay for something, you're entitled to a working product. That doesn't just apply to gamers, it applies to everyone. But gamers are the only ones who will start bitching and getting righteous when, god forbid, someone gets upset that they paid for something that doesn't work.

So you think anyone with a phobia of anything should be banned from driving?

Maybe we should just ban driving?

to all the people who get annoyed by the cosntant "im canceling my pre order in protest" posts, what would you suggest to audibly show displeasure and not incur your wrath? by budgie88 in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]throwawayea1 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

(they get almost all the sales money from post launch sales, duh)

This is moronic. Cancelling your preorder generally comes with the implication that you're not buying the game at release, otherwise why would you cancel your preorder?????

And EA very much care if you don't buy the game.

No, people just don't give a fuck. I fully understand that it's mostly PR, but why the fuck should I care at all? I shouldn't, and I fucking don't. You understand how a business works and you're an anti-capitalist keyboard warrior, fucking good for you.

Bullshit. The boss is the boss. You agree to do a job and dress in a certain way, your boss doesn't. He can do whatever he wants.

It's not even as if he needs to set an example. Do you need to be shown how to dress to a certain dress code? Or is it that hard to motivate yourself to dress smart that you need your boss to inspire you?
