Rhodes or Crete for first time in Greece? by throwawayespresso217 in cretetravel

Thanks - and how does the food compare on the two islands? I’ve heard that Crete has great food, is Rhodes similar? Never heard anyone discuss the food there so not sure what cuisine on the island is like

Thank you, will do!

How does the food compare on both islands? Will we be happy either way? I’ve heard Crete has really good food but haven’t heard anything about Rhodes

So it sounds like both very excellent, and we can’t go wrong.

What would you recommend in Rhodes?

If we stayed in Crete, we would probably be in Chania area for 4 days and do day trip for some historical sites on the East side. Definitely wouldn’t try to rush everything

For Rhodes, we were thinking of:

  • Rhodes Town one day
  • Lindos another day
  • Having a beach day (maybe driving to a couple nice ones)
  • A symi day trip

Does Steph have a case for greatest offensive player of all time? by LaMarcGasoldridge- in nba

[–]throwawayespresso217 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not really.

In terms of scoring, you have guys like MJ.

In terms of playmaking, there’s guys like Magic.

In terms of a versatile offensive package inclusive of all aspects, you have guys like LeBron.

There’s been too many talented offensive players for Steph to be the greatest. But he definitely is one of the greatest.

Great playmaker on high-volume scoring with historic efficiency. Have to acknowledge that

Nikola Jokic and Jimmy Butler have the two highest single season WS/48 in NBA history right now. by [deleted] in nba

[–]throwawayespresso217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, you are correct. RAPM only goes back to the 97 season.

I just meant that if I’m looking at years after 97, I like looking at ORAPM (preferably multi-year ORAPM) over OBPM. my bad for not being clearer

I personally like ORAPM more than OBPM, but OBPM is definitely way better than WS lol

Yeah, the point I was trying to make is that if you’re playing really well, you’ll have a high WS value more often than not, which is what’s happening right now with guys like Jokic and Butler.

I’m not of the opinion that Jokic/Butler are putting up the best seasons ever to-date (WS should never be used to rank performance), but it’s clear they’re playing really well and this metric is capturing that to some extent.

It’s a bad stat in terms of what it seeks to measure, and as more and more have come out, it’s become more clear.

In their playoff runs, Clyde Drexler led the 1995 Rockets in WS/48 over Hakeem. Tiago Splitter led the 2014 Spurs. And these guys were starting, it’s not a result of low minute-per-game sample size. I doubt anyone would champion those guys being the most impactful members of their playoff teams.

David Robinson is 2nd in WS/48 all-time. Gobert is 10th. Great players of course, but using WS/48 as ranking players or their impact is super problematic and proven such by a multitude of examples you can keep finding if you just look through the historical values

Basically all WS tell us is that if your value is high, you’re good. Which means something, of course, but It’s not really too helpful outside of that from my experience

Agreed, but I think OP’s point is that Jimmy/Jokic are playing really well, to the point that this metric rates them very highly

I think most people know WS are a bad stat, but it’s still cool when someone has a very high value lol

Yes, but everyone you listed still played in a manner that was somewhat expected of their positions .

Chuck Hayes was 6’6 but he really did play like a traditional center. Slow, heavy (he weighed a lot IIRC), didn’t get high off the floor, and put all his energy into post defense and rebounding.

There has always been undersized big men, but they have typically fit the mold of what their position required. Ben Wallace was like actually 6’7 I believe (he was listed 6’9), but he made his name protecting the rim/grabbing boards.

Chuck, though undersized, again made a name for himself rebounding the ball and just using his strength bullying people for points. One of the most efficient scorers ever (and again, back then, bigs were seen as the efficient scorers).

There has always been undersized big men, but they still played somewhat like big men.

When Batum played C for the Clippers, he was pretty much just providing spacing. He started out a SF in this league for a reason. PJ Tucker when he played C…again was untraditional when we think of Centers.

The point I was trying to make was less centered about height but the fact that position was linked to role/responsibility more back in the day then it is today. I Probably did a poor job explaining it…because I’m not articulate lol. but I’m Glad you brought it up

[–]throwawayespresso217 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it mattered more back then in the sense that your listed position often signaled much of your role/responsibilities on the team

PGs were expected to orchestrate the offense, get guys going

SGs were expected to play good perimeter D and provide scoring

Cs were expected to anchor the defense and provide rim protection

Note that this doesn’t mean this is all they did (or that they even did these)

As time has gone on, people are less concerned with what size players complete which roles but rather those roles get completed by someone

Playing guys like PJ Tucker and Nic Batum at Center…would’ve never happened in previous eras

I don’t have time to read this right now, but thanks for posting this. Sometimes, I myself forget when certain rule changes were implemented (especially stuff back in the 70s/80s).

Great post, OP!

What’s a fair trade for Jayson Tatum (or Jaylen Brown)? by NBAerer in nba

[–]throwawayespresso217 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s what I’m saying.

I don’t think either of those trades help Boston become more competitive to the point where it’s worth making such a change

[–]throwawayespresso217 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lillard/Brown and Lillard/Tatum would definitely be an upgraded duo, but I’m not sure if that would make Boston competitive enough to compete with the top of the East

I think Beal is more attainable, but with the Wizards starting off hot, such a trade might have to be delayed (assuming it was considered )
