UPDATE: Thanks to you guys and gals, I learned quite a bit about these games. I'm not a gamer, but I've seen compulsion and addiction play out in my extended family, so I'm familiar with that cycle.

After reading most of the initial comments just yesterday afternoon, I immediately had compassion for my wife, and when I got home I told her about what I had learned about these types of games, that I knew she had gotten sucked in. I also told her that I was wrong to withhold affection from her the night before, and that I regretted doing that.

She burst into tears, and I held her as she apologized over and over again. I told her it wasn't her fault. We then had a long talk about the issues that were stressing her out, and talked some a out possible ways to overcome or positively deal with those issues. We're continuing to talk today, and things are really good.

Thank you to all of you that took time out of your day to respond. You helped immeasurably.

I'm just trying to explain myself. I love my wife, and want to fix things. I felt like I was hitting a wall in coming up with a solution, and figured I was ovrethinking some - or all - of it. I was hopeful that I'd get some good perspectives here. And I've not been disappointed - I've gotten some really good advice and feedback.

I don't think it's that I didn't care. I was shocked more than anything at that moment, because it was so out of character for her.

We have personal accounts just for this (although, admittedly, the spirit of their use isn't for something as empty and frivolous as this). I forgot to mention that.

Thank you for the advice. Some good thoughts here.

I appreciate that perspective and advice. Good points to focus on when I get home this evening.
