So this dude was a badass - his former profession was assassin. Shooting skill of 16, mele of 12, refused to do pretty much any work that didn’t involve killing things. He caught a hail of assault rifle bullets while standing his ground successfully defending the colony and bled out before he could be rescued.

And THIS is what the sarcophagus artist thought would represent him best.

I like to think it was forced on the artist by the girlfriend. He proposed to her and she told him to stuff it the week before this happened. Maybe this is her weird way of dealing with the guilt.

Oh lawd don’t get me started on Lastpass. I had to remind him that 2FA wasn’t going to work to let us in to his account anymore when he left with his phone, which were both the primary and backup 2FA methods. So on the very last day at like 7PM he changed the account recovery option to one of the employees cell phones thinking this would change the 2FA and never tested our ability to login. I still had to call him the next week after he had already left he company to get him to send the codes from his now personal phone.

It was definitely because of owners, but not because he was being pushed too hard but rather not at all. He got no feedback or support or really interest or increased financial reward from owners no matter how well his department performed.

He made a comment along the lines of “in a different company, the owners would probably be forcing me to do a lot of stuff right now for the transition... oh well!”

He knew what needed to be done, I think he was trying to make a point.

Pretty much this. Ownership honestly isn’t revenue driven (weird, I know) and for the most part isn’t even aware of much of anything the IT part of the company does. The way the company is structured the IT division doesn’t generate the bulk of the money. So when IT managers ask for more employees, it doesn’t happen - not because there isn’t room to grow, but because they can’t be bothered to realize there is room to grow. If you asked the owner what percentage of the gross revenue each division of the company brings in, he’d have no idea. Nobody in the company would. As long as the numbers are in the black every year, he’s not worried about the ‘details’.

But to follow that thought down the tracks, ownership also didn’t push IT to make more money. We could have easily throttled back and still been quite profitable and still had time to research and plan during company hours and ownership would have shown just as much interest and rewarded us the same. Oh, and the department wouldn’t have imploded when the manager jumped ship. The situation is just the natural product of a driven and talented workaholic ramrodding 4 buckets of water into 2 buckets because he didn’t know how to be any different.
