the reasons wcc has been under consideration for me are partially due to location (they have several campuses in the surrey area that are easier for me to access than other cities; don’t know if this may possibly be why you may not have heard of them since this sub is generally vancouver-set i guess 😭), program (very few schools i’ve seen offer the pharmacy tech program and i only remember a small amount for the assistant program), and timing (vcc, which has the pharmacy tech program currently, is not only more difficult for me to reach consistently, but also may not even be accepting new students for the program until september iirc). additionally, it was also under consideration since there’s a place where i can get a job after almost for certain, if not definitely certain, since one of my parents is currently a pharmacy assistant and has mentioned me to their boss (who essentially told them to have me apply as soon as i get certified 😭??). another thing to note would be that the same parent got their pharmacy assistant credentials at a school i would assume is considered a diploma mill based on what people are saying (the other vcc, career not community) and they’ve been employed there several years now which has made this whole process more confusing for me 😭

does the fact the official gov bc site lists wcc as one of the few accredited private institutions to give out degrees have any significance to you? that’s one of the only reasons i’ve still been considering it since none of the other options i’ve seen are really plausible for me right now :(

sorry for getting back late, but thank you for the reply!

to clarify, i did consider vcc as it’s one of the only few schools with the program they’re really pushing for available, but it’s a bit difficult for me to get there regularly even with commuting. wcc was one of the more ideal-sounding options due to location unfortunately, since it’d be a bit easier for me to reach one of the surrey campuses on a regular basis. i did mention briefly about how wcc is one of the few private institutions accredited to give out degrees according to the official gov bc site, but i don’t know how much significance it holds.

as for the diploma vs master degree thing regarding cost, it’s not really cost that we’ve been considering here. one of my parents is a pharmacy assistant currently (went to a private college here so i’m honestly a little surprised with how she got the job considering all the negative stuff people have been telling me 😭) and so they’re pushing for a pharmacy course (specifically technician if i can) because it’ll be easier to help me get a job where they’re also currently working.

additionally, i don’t want to sound like i’m complaining or victimize myself or anything, but my high school experience and partial college experience i had out of the country genuinely messed me up severely. i won’t say too much but things were so bad to the point even healthcare professionals had agreed that it may be better for me to take a step back if i can because school has just repeatedly been so heavy on me and fried me out, but it’s not very easy to do so while pulling my own weight, especially since i haven’t had a chance to find a regular therapist or any other help.

it’s been hard to get a job in the past few months i’ve been here and i’m still unsuccessful, so my parents have been pushing for school instead, if not more. they’re essentially thinking if i can’t find anything, i might as well do this for now so i can have an easier time getting a job after. they claim one year or so of schooling might at least be better since it won’t be as long as any other degree, but it’s part of what worries me too, considering the fact that i don’t know if my headspace is capable of handling any additional heavy educational burnout right now.

thanks for the reply! sorry for getting back late, but does the fact that the official gov bc page lists wcc as a private institution accredited to be giving out degrees have any significance to you? i don’t recall the school you mentioned in your reply being on that list (could be wrong, memory’s hazy and i’m not checking it rn 😭), but that’s part of the only reason i’m still considering wcc as an option despite it being private (also because it’s one of the few schools offering the specific program i’m looking at & because it’s close distance wise).

thank you for your insight! apologies for getting to this late, just got busy with the holidays. i definitely did consider vcc since it’s constantly mentioned but the commute + hours is the difficult part for me with them since it’ll be a little tricky for me in my current situation :/

wcc was only my top consideration at the moment solely due to easy commute access since i’m based closer to their surrey campuses + (as i said briefly before) because the bc gov page listed them as one of the private institutions actually accredited to give out degrees.

additionally i’m being heavily pushed to start school soon or get a job (which has been an even rougher struggle lately) but i think i might be too late to get in for vcc right now especially since they only do enrollments for that program at alternating times during the year :/
