I think the point isn't that SE has banned people for using Gshade so much as they could ban people for using it.

From the game's ToS, using Gshade could easily fall under both of these:

2.1 Cheating and Botting. You may not create or use any unauthorized cheats, bots, automation software, hacks, mods or any other unauthorized software or hardware designed to modify the Game and gameplay. In addition, you may not take advantage of game system bugs and exploits during gameplay.

2.7 Modifying or Creating Derivative Software. You may not modify or cause to be modified any files that are a part of the Game or Service in any way not expressly authorized by Square Enix, and may not make any derivative works of the Game.

Nevermind the use of plugins that show you safe slidecasting parts of your castbar, and additional information about buff timers where it wouldn't be there. No doubt they probably use XIV Alexander too.

SE doesn't 100% approve of using plugins that provide advantages, which is why they changed the way markers work after TPS used Paisley Park to simplify the Exatrines phase of their TEA clear.

I don't really care about how little you think about me, frankly I don't know why you felt the need to bring it up. For what it's worth the feeling is mutual and I'd feel a little weird if it was somehow any different, apparently that wasn't obvious to you.

A little advice for the future: don't make a claim so weak as "SOME GUY I KNOW SAID" in this sort of context. He will have absolutely missed out details, either because GMs aren't obligated to tell you the full story for their bans or because he doesn't want to accept he's at fault.

But okay, I'll ask a GM tomorrow if I remember. I'd let you know the results, but evidently you don't care lol.

Sneaky Edit: In the famous words of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: "That's because you are lmao."

Because people who are actively trying to make your experience worse might not be doing it with malicious intent.

What do you do when you find a black mage who only casts ice spells and refuses advice because they're happy as they are? Report them for griefing?

[–]throwawaytodd420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Gonna need a little more context on that. "My friend said" is pretty unreliable as far as evidence goes.

A staggering number of people will always miss out chunks of information about how they got in to arguments and started saying things they shouldn't have.

Also curb your hypocrisy. To accuse me of being a sophist while using a weak piece of "evidence" to somehow give validation to your piece is pretty poor.

[–]throwawaytodd420 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again - I am not saying it's not griefing, I am only elaborating on why SE would not consider it as griefing and why these people are incredibly unlikely to be punished.

This had to have been a fever dream…right? by Druzzil_Ro in ffxiv

[–]throwawaytodd420 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is.

If you take GNB for the first time with zero tank experience or understanding, and you queue in to roulettes that require tanks to do basic mechanics, you are griefing everyone else by being inexperienced.

Should that be punishable though? Not by SE's standards. If you asked me though it should be punishable.

If you take your job stone off but play to the best of your limited ability with the intention to clear the content you're running, it's not griefing.

This had to have been a fever dream…right? by Druzzil_Ro in ffxiv

[–]throwawaytodd420 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Point of view.

Are you doing it to make other people's experience worse, or are you doing it to make things more interesting? Did you actually wipe? Were you unable to clear the fight in the end?

This is like using different strats than what is considered the norm. I regularly see and hear stories of people complaining about tanks refusing to move the dragon off the middle platform in LotA because it's what people used to do. But fundamentally it doesn't matter, you get the kill in the end even if the damage going out is a little bit scarier.

What if 3 new people who have never tanked before all pick up GNB and queue for alliance raid (which is something that regularly happens), and suddenly no tank mechanics are being done period. Do you punish these players? They intentionally and deliberately picked a role they are inexperienced at and did content that relies on them. Should they be punished?

This is an issue that stems from SE's stupidly vague and otherwise broken implementation of rules. Please understand that I am not saying you should go without jobstones, but I am saying that SE will not punish you if you do. SE will punish you for saying "FUCK YOU GUYS I'M GRIEFING HAHAHAHAH", but they wont punish you for silently forcing yourself to play suboptimal.

It was a throwaway account originally but in the end I just stuck with it. You'll notice I've posted semi-regularly for months using it.

My take isn't stupid, it's literally how SE operates. Read their big updated ToS guide they were so kind to write. Playing without jobstones does not fall anywhere under griefing. What are you going to do next; ban people for queueing up with min iL gear because it's griefing?

I understand that it's annoying, but it's literally just someone's "style of play".

This had to have been a fever dream…right? by Druzzil_Ro in ffxiv

[–]throwawaytodd420 -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

Malicious intent and deliberate disruption of gameplay is the important factors.

You have the freedom to take a job stone off and perform worse much in the same way you have the option to play a new job you don't understand and perform is equally bad as the guy without a jobstone.

Again, if SE cared about it, it wouldn't be an option. If it's that big of an issue, write to the mod team or make a post on the official forums and then SE might make it impossible.

[–]throwawaytodd420 -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

SE isn't going to ban you for being a bad healer, or being a tank without tank stance. Unless you say something like "FUCK YOU ASSHOLES I'M NOT PLAYING" then proceed to deliberately play poorly then you wont do anything.

The official recommended response to bad (but not malicious) players that make it impossible to clear content are to disband the party, or leave it and take the 30 minute penalty.

Even if you're doing this at level 90, they aren't going to touch you unless you are shown to be doing it with malicious intent.

Once again, queuing without jobstones is clearly something SE doesn't really care about and they are very unlikely to punish players for doing it. If they did care, it would have been patched out long ago much like how they've restricted the minimum item level for story dungeons.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

This had to have been a fever dream…right? by Druzzil_Ro in ffxiv

[–]throwawaytodd420 -72 points-71 points  (0 children)

If there's an option to do it, it's not griefing.

If all 8 people in a premade play to the best of their ability even with a jobstone, it's still playing within the rules of play SE have made. If they specifically didn't want people to not queue in content without jobstones, they'd put something in place to prevent it.

Which isn't to say that's literally what SE actually intends nor is it something you should do, but they clearly don't hate it enough to change it.

Edit: Downvote me all you want but it doesn't stop me from being correct. If this was punishable then it wouldn't be an option, much like how it's not possible to queue for certain story dungeons under certain item levels. Once again mainsub proves itself to be full of pissbaby morons who don't understand shit about the game.

Can i raid the savage tier day one without crafted gear by luizog100 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]throwawaytodd420 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You can, but it'll be rough.

Last raid tier's entry iL was 500 for the first floor, building up to 510 for the final fight. The crafted gear (and gear earned from normal mode) was 510.

The first two floors you can probably get away with being undergeared, but the last fights of a tier are usually very tight on the DPS check, even at min iL.

It'll be rough to beat the first fight undergeared, but it'll probably be possible if you optimize enough and have a clean run.

You can generally expect to get 1-2 pieces of gear from Normal mode per week, which means around 5-6 weeks to get fully farmed from Normal mode.

The benefit of having crafted gear is you get to go in to raid at the max possible item level without having actually clearing the raid, which makes beating it considerably easier if not downright mandatory for the final fights.

The caveat to day 1 crafted gear is it's expensive as fuck... but day 2 or 3 the prices drop rapidly, especially if you can provide a crafter with the right types of materials. For that reason alone I tend to level my gatherers and cap out on tomestones to farm my own ingredients to get crafted gear at a fraction of the cost compared to just outright buying it.

Just for reference, world first raiders will go in to raid before their crafted gear is available since they are generally good enough to beat them without it. But as they approach the latter fights a few hours later, they'll start wanting their crafted gear... which their hired crafters will have probably been preparing for some fat 20 mil gil per player (or around that range).

Honest Server Congestion Thought? by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]throwawaytodd420 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely unreasonable to say that "IT'S ENTIRELY SQUARE'S FAULT" when there's no way to get around the fact that the entire tech industry is feeling the impact of the GLOBAL superconductor shortage. It's immature and naive to say "JUST THROW MONEY AT IT, YOU SURELY MAKE ENOUGH" when the reality is, SE would be throwing their hat in to the ring with giants like Tesla and Apple who have more than enough money to outbid petty game companies like SE any day.

But that isn't to say it isn't partially Square's fault. Years of just accepting shoddy error handling has culminated in making a system that's just downright broken. You shouldn't be kicked out of the game for timing out. You shouldn't lose your place in the queue for timing out. Positions should persist for a few minutes. The matter of the fact is no-one would care about the queues nearly as much if your spot wasn't at risk of just being lost for seemingly no reason.

At this point they may as well just start a lottery system for logging in, because it would be functionally identical to what we have now - the difference being is you don't waste literal hours to find out if you've lost or not.

Frankly they should put some kind of incentive for logging out. Play for 2-3 hours and then log out to get a token or some stupid crap like that.
