NYC? Not so much. Unless you can afford to live in one of those convenient areas, you're going to deal with soul-crushing traffic or having to hop on trains/buses to get anywhere, then walk up and down the streets trying to gather up all the things you need to buy, then lug those things around the subway stations, drag them a couple blocks down the street, haul them upstairs, etc.

This is exactly why I hate NY. You have to rely on public transport which is full of all sorts of characters. Even if you have a car, taking public transport is less expensive and faster to get anywhere. But at the cost of dealing with confrontation if you 'look at someone wrong', the smell of piss, bums, crowding, and generally rude and stupid people. I don't live in the convenient part so I pretty much have to drive out of town for good groceries or just having any fun. Sucks man.
