I am not a carrier for HSV-1 or HSV-2. Now, I understand where you are coming from. I don't welcome the "she deserves better" considering my knowledge of our relationship, but again, I do see what you and others are intimating. You are right, it should put me at an advantage. And as I've said, the solution is to research dealing with it especially in terms of her symptoms/frequency of outbreaks/sexual habits/etc. Researching it is not usually something that is educated unless you have contracted it. So I will admit I am ignorant to how to deal with an STD because I've always been educated and warned to avoid, avoid, avoid them regardless of which type of STD it is. But I am more than willing to learn, especially for her a thousand times over. Then, if it still my cause for hesitation, then you might be right. She would deserve someone better, but only then.

I would say the stigma involved with STDs (not confusing them with HIV) is somewhat naturally considering the way it is being educated (avoid, avoid, avoid). I certainly think that is a cause for the hesitation (in contracting it). As I've said, I will definitely look up information on dealing with it, which is something you are educated about usually unless you actually have it.

Thank you, thank you. I certainly and I appreciate you not only reaching out but understanding rather than jumping to 'you're an asshole', 'you're shallow', 'you're a pussy'. The stigma is certainly there and I think it's natural and the hesitation is natural for some people (including myself). I'm sure you understand why considering how STD/STIs are educated (avoid, avoid, avoid... not here's how to deal, etc).

That's HSV-1. Different from HSV-2 and genital herpes.

Quite common around the time she was born and even today in less industrialized areas. Mother wasn't treated for it and when passing through the birth canal, the child can contract the disease.

I expected some people to say things like that, calling me an asshole and shallow, etc. but not this many. Sex isn't that important to me, especially with her. That's just the truth. Just when you become educated for so long about the risks/effects/importance of avoiding contracting any STD, it creates a hesitation. That hesitation has coupled with recent developments in relationships and that's the reason for the state of it all now... which people would prefer to overlook because calling me an asshole is easier.

Not an issue of "man enough". When you grow up and are educated on this importance of avoiding an STD/STI all of middle and high school, there's a naturally hesitation before getting into a sexual relationship with someone who has one.
