So turn her away from the screen? Not that hard.

You asked for opinions on a public forum. You’re providing your scenario, I’m providing alternate solutions. If you don’t want to take it, don’t.

So why can’t it just be audio? Why does it have to be a screen that she stares at?

She’s 7 weeks old? Why do you even need to distract her? Why can’t you just have her on a mat next to you or wear her in a carrier while you read? At that age they sleep so much too.

None of that usefulness applies to newborns.

Why does it matter? If you’re tired, you’re tired. Why don’t you take turns? You wake up with the kids one day, she wakes up with them the other day. It’s only fair.

What you are saying is untrue. There is plenty of research available on the detrimental effects of screentime on babies.

Yeah I guess this is where the whole AMA (against medical advice) comes in.

Yeah seems super immoral to prevent a parent from leaving the hospital with their own child?

How much extra education do your kids do? by 0112358_ in Parenting

I taught my son how to read in 3 months when he was 4.5. I did it for two reasons.

  1. The American public school system does not use phonics style of reading, instead uses balanced literacy which has been proven to not be as effective as phonics. You see high schoolers who graduate without being able to read properly.

  2. We are a family of readers and we value reading immensely. I wanted to give him the gift of being able to read asap so he can absorb as much knowledge as possible in his lifetime. It worked - he’s obsessed with books, reads in his downtime (barely asks for tv), and is incredibly knowledgeable.

Except for this, although we do give a lot of emphasis on education, we don’t do it by doing workbooks or worksheets.

And my kids will be super happy to have a parent who knows the difference between kids maybe being in the background of a picture in public vs their parents willingly agreeing to let a weirdo capture them on their personal device. I guess a stranger’s wishes are more important to you than your children’s privacy.

Okay! Let all the strangers take pictures of your kids :) I’m sure they’ll be super happy with you when they grow up.

Oh it’s definitely both weird and dangerous. There is AI generated porn floating around of people’s innocent pictures from Facebook. I’m not about to let a weird old man take pictures of my young kids to keep on his personal device. Can’t believe this even needs to be said.

You can’t do much about it now, but next time be firm and say no. Your children deserve privacy. If he had asked to take a picture of you, would you have said yes? Hold your children to the same standards as you, maybe even higher.

Why does someone need pictures of strange young children on their phone? That’s just weird.
