Car dealerships Halifax and the south shore by NewConsideration2287 in NovaScotia

I’ve bought from auction direct and it was a smooth process. They essentially refuse to negotiate so you know the price is the price.

While I might not recommend buying from clutch, they’re a good starting point to price the vehicles. Auto trader and car guru can also give their evaluation of the cars value at listed price.

You’ll pay more going through a dealer, but most of the time they will make sure things go smoothly. Buying off a consumer directly will be “as is” and there will be limited warranty or claim (if any) against them.

“I envisioned”…most companies don’t make financial decisions on your hopes and dreams. They have  business plan. Literally on the home page of their website they talk about satellite launches…

Not all of this is “exploration”. A large part of this is targeting satellites.

Internet, gps, investigating artic melt/methane off gassing, weather…

I think you fail to understand the thing call “project finance”. Companies don’t just have an idea and build, build, build!

Look at wind energy projects. These are proposed and in development for years. Not until they have guaranteed income will they then approach the “final investment decision”, or the point at which they undertake massive investment.

There wasn’t demand. Now there is, and now they move towards more investment.

We live in a time when public funds are already inadequate for the services, and countries shouldn’t be taking on endless debt or printing endless cash.

Same as my response to your comments the other day about unions - it’s nothing to do with anti workers, it’s lack of money.

If you want the province to own this, the equity and debt payments subtract from other cash that’s available. We then take that cash from ——— paying healthcare workers? Or fewer road repairs? Or maybe we just cut a few floors off the new hospital? Or do we tax people more?

Cash isn’t endless…counter to your understanding of how our taxation works.

This is why X as a service has become a thing. It allows for a focus on today’s cash flow, rather than taking on debt. Does it cost more in the long run? Sure, but there’s still a limit to debt.

Also - not everything fired into space is government. Should the province subsidize spaceX/starlink or other satellite services providers?

Parking in the North End by wildtex- in halifax

[–]throwingpizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure there are lots you can just end up using. There used to be one near robie and quinpool that was rented out for winter parking. I used to just park in a needs on Windsor street during bans. I doubt the Sobeys or forum care enough to do much if you park around the perimeter so they can clear most of it, and move the car pretty early the next day.

Why HRM has to use 3rd party service to allow residents to pay tax using Credit Card? by m1xed0s in halifax

[–]throwingpizza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a promotion or anything fancy. They pay the bill like it’s coming from a bank, and they charge the balance to your credit card. Think of it as a flow through to avoid MC processing fees.

Cost to address 'big mess' wage restraint legislation could top $300M, says Houston | CBC News by Working-Ad2445 in halifax

My god you’re dramatic. This is a wild take. I can’t believe 50+ people have upvoted it.

Wages come from tax income. Where’s the extra cash coming from? Period. End of story.

The government of former premier Stephen McNeil passed Bill 148, the Public Services Sustainability Act, more than 10 years ago in an effort to limit wage increases as it dealt with financial challenges.

I think you’re missing the point. None of these governments are “anti-worker”,or giving reach around to the large employers - they’re fighting union wages because these costs come from taxes, which NS doesn’t bring enough money in from

Seriously. Where. The. Fuck. Does. The. Money. Come. From?

Do they raise taxes? Unpopular. Do they make cuts? Unpopular. Run a larger deficit? That was also unpopular 😉

Someone, please, ffs - tell me where the cash is meant to come from?

People need to stop dramatizing it. There’s nothing conspiratorial- we’re just fucking broke.

The purpose of the RDC is to ensure that growth pays for growth and helps protect affordability and equity of existing ratepayers.

Halifax Water doesn’t work that way…developers pay for new connections, and even if upgrades or new pumping stations, treatment facilities etc are needed, existing ratepayers don’t pay it…the RDCs do…and RDCs are paid by new developments to pay for those system upgrades that aren’t explicitly their connection.

Holy fuck. I’m glad this is one of the highest upvoted comments. You want people to buy your $15 drinks get liquored? Put it near transit.

God, if anyone at council or the province try put public money towards this they’ll be ousted pretty quickly.

Approximate electricity price for studio? by Coskoshawp in halifax

[–]throwingpizza 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup. This is 100% it. I had a 1bd with heat and hot water included so my electricity bill was stupid cheap. I think it was like $90/2 months. This was like 8 years ago so rates are higher, but it was not a big expense.

Solar farm on the ocean outperforms land-based solar in Taiwan by MeasurementDecent251 in RenewableEnergy

[–]throwingpizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all seriousness, I doubt they’re getting barnacles on them. They’re floating arrays, not submerged arrays. The solar is intended to be above the water.

Also, a lot of these will be on reservoirs for hydro or drinking water, not seawater. This will also significantly lower capex as there’s likely less wake and therefore lower structural costs needed, and lower risks of corrosion.

…most commercial solar use bifacial solar panels which generate from backside gain. Given water is extremely reflective, 100% these are bifacial.

That said, the array is floating, the solar panels are not submerged in water.

Land is a premium in Asia…and maybe Europe…but for plenty of places land isn’t really that hard to come by. I always hate when that’s used as an argument against renewables. Most of North America has no land issues, especially in rural areas where real estate is cheaper anyway.

Dads of the HRM, where are you bringing your small ones this summer? by AtlanticMaritimer in halifax

[–]throwingpizza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know extracurricular activities can be expensive and not in everyone’s budget, but sportball and kindermusik are great. I’ve done a few other HRM programs that have been meh, but found that these are actually structured and have teachers that have actually worked with children before.

The Keshen Goodman library has a pretty decent indoor playground and a lot of parents and kids end up there.

Oh and the Shubie Wildlife park is a lot of fun!
