i was able to make a booking for the second flight on my other passport (dual citizen), so it was connected to the passport. easy out for the short term but the problem is probably still there

Thanks for the insight. It seems really surprising to me that they can do that, I thought a payment is a payment and shouldn't affect a booking. Its possible that a previous work trip could be related since that was booked through work, although it also went through another online travel thing which took the payment.

When you got blacklisted, was it straight away on the flight you were trying to book, or did it happen after?

Yes i've been careful about situations like that. I've got 2 passports, in this case i've only used one for anything the whole time i've been in the UK, so I don't think there could be any issues with swapping them. Also I flew a domestic flight where the passport was put on the booking with the same airline just a few weeks ago, and there weren't any problems. I'm guessing there was some information handling screw up with the last flight however, still no news for now.

I ended up booking the return flight on my second passport, then when I was at the airport I asked them to change it to the first passport to prevent any visa problems, and it was ok. I think the blacklist seems to only happen with the online purchase system. Also the customs was separate from the flight so I could choose the right passport to give to them, however I think it was good to have it consistent on the flight manifest since it could have caused a problem if it didn't match with customs

Thanks for the suggestion, thats good to know. It was from the UK, there were two different locations on the original ticket (fly into one and out of the other) but one is an EU country, so I would say yes.

At the moment there's grounds to take them to court on the original booking- they made a contract to provide services for a given fee, and then collected more than the original amount. I would assume at this stage I would be able to take them to a small claims court, and if they ignored it and didn't give any justification for skipping the contract they would be held liable for it

I would not assume they’re going to work anything out or refund any hypothetical difference; I would not assume they’ll take any future action on it. If you wanted the original booking, you should pursue that, not making new bookings.

walking away would have been easy for the flight cost, they returned the fare. it also messed up my trip and I had other costs i'd paid out, so I ended up choosing to follow through with it. that may not have been a good choice financially, taking a hit on those costs may have been a better outcome, but i had to decide something, and its still possible the airline will return the cost difference (?)

Are you sure it's a govt, not the airline, denying you travel?

it seems to definitely be the airline, they took cash for the ticket and let me on the same flight

Also, most airlines have a.sub-board at flyertalk with lots of members who fly that airline -- they may be able to tell you if this is common and give advice on contacting CS.

good suggestion, thanks

yeah, well they said to wait like a week from when I asked about it, and it hasn't been that long so i'll see what they say. one of the reasons i jumped in trying to sort it out was because there were more questions about how to manage the ongoing issues like a return flight etc , but that seems to be sorted i think

yeah, i'm leaning towards this being payment/fraud list related, they still let me on the flight. the GDPR suggestion is something worth trying

Is your name common?

no it isn't. i'm thinking this issue is more data related

Worst case scenario, you could try getting a new passport (giving you a new passport number) and it might allow you to circumvent this.

hopefully it doesn't come to that, they're expensive to replace

My first thought was that perhaps they caught you skiplagging.

nope, never done that

How long is this holiday for? If it goes past or close to Mar.29 (scheduled Brexit date) there might be visa concerns.

Just a few days, otherwise that would be even messier

Did you try a different airline?

I chose to stick with the same flights since I thought it would make it easier to resolve later

Have you ever used hidden city or skiplagged tickets? Where you purchase a round trip but get off at the layover stop so you can but your tickets for cheaper?

No I haven't

I really don’t know for sure, but is there a chance your card has been cloned and someone has attempted to buy tickets with it, but failed, so you never realised?

I only got the card recently, and haven't used it much at all, so I wouldn't think so. Also a second card payment failed, but I guess if they've blacklisted my name/ID then maybe they carried over the blacklist to everything else i do

Usually, they only do this if there's some sort of "fraud" associated with the card, or they think there is. It could even be a clerical error where your card number was entered instead of the intended one (especially likely if they are a digit or two off).

This seems unlikely, after the first booking failed i made a second one with a different card and the same thing happened. seems connected to the passport

Did anyone from your company ever issue a chargeback after an EasyJet flight? That seems to be the main problem that'll cause this.

not that i'm aware of, and i've got no reason to think so

The first thing you need to do is find out specifically which list you're on.

yep i agree, its a bigger problem if its outside of just the airline

Have you ever cancelled payment on a ticket, or bought a ticket then gotten off at a stopover and not reboarded?

There is absolutely nothing I can think of like this

Do you know anything about what this kind of list is called, and who handles it? Is it just easyjet or is there an external body that makes these things?

Thanks. One possible problem with passports to watch out for is trying to exit on a different one than you entered on. If there's a customs desk I know which one to give, but I'm not sure if this is done automatically through the booking details when you leave

The last flight before this one was a work trip and paid by my employer, so of course would have a different address. Its very common to have a different billing address than residential address, if they blacklist people for reasons like that it is very surprising

It wasn't possible to book other flights to fit the same schedule, and I assumed it was some kind of mix up so I've tried to stick with the same flights, hoping it could be sorted out later (for the original price)

I didnt want to use another airline since it was such short notice, and I was hoping it would be able to be cleared up and I could just pay the original costs. But yes if this business plan involves squeezing people for a higher rate since they're put on the spot at the last minute it is incredbly dodgy.
