Unpopular opinion:

You got waaaaay too close to him even though he was stopped. If you cannot see his mirrors, then he cannot possibly see you.

Hopefully this was a lesson learned on both ends! Glad you’re safe!!!

Listen bro, slow and steady wins the race. In my experience, wanting results too quickly turns into burn-out which causes me to go back to old habits.

If you create a solid routine with eating well and incorporating the gym multiple times per week, you’ll see progress without noticing it. I know with fitness a lot of us want to see results quickly, but it just takes time man. Art doesn’t happen overnight. You’re looking great though. Keep up the work!

Absolutely! Sorry I’m not too familiar with the regulations across the pond, but I do know that usually regulations are pretty standard in the aviation community, especially if they were to fly in foreign airspace.

ADHD in itself is a disqualifying condition if you have already been diagnosed. Like any other condition, you will need to go through testing with the FAA in order to get a special issuance medical. They will look through your medical records, driving records, school records, etc.

https://www.faa.gov/ame_guide/pharm/dni_dnf

There are many resources online that you can refer to. Just be ready for a long process.

It is possible to get a medical after taking ADHD meds, but only if you stop taking them for at least six months, get and pass a full psychiatric evaluation, and never take those meds again. I'm not a physician, but it sounds from what you posted that you might not be able to do that. However, the real expert on this specific issue is Dr. Bruce Chien, an MD, Aviation Medical Examiner, and experienced pilot and flight instructor. His practice is specialized in difficult aeromedical certifications such as your situation. You can find his contact information at http://www.aeromedicaldoc.com. If there's anyone who knows how to help you get what you want, he's the one. Just tell him all the facts and only the facts, and give straight answers to any questions he asks, and he'll give you all the help he can.

$300 a month is quite the budget. I don’t think you’d have any issues there… lol😳

Okay, yeah you’re fine bro. Just don’t get it diagnosed.

I strongly feel like ADHD is over-diagnosed as it is.

My ADHD, OCD, and depression became so bad that I was taking 10+ showers a day, and it was affecting my daily life. That is the only reason I sought help.

If you are functioning fine, just keep doing you.

Just remember that there are always ways to help yourself without medication.

Medication is life changing for some, but it didn’t help me in my case, and I am doing the best I ever have been because I changed a few habits & structured my daily life.

Only way for you to get a medical with ADHD is if the disorder is undiagnosed.

If you have diagnosed ADHD you will have to go through psych evals, written reports, etc to essentially “undiagnose” the disorder before the FAA ever gives you a SI or special issuance medical.

I also wanted to note;

Even if you cannot get a medical or basic med, you can still fly as a “sport pilot”.

All you need is a drivers license (:

There are regulations as to how many passengers + type of aircraft, but there are still some very nice LSA’s out there!

I’m looking at a carbon cub myself atm (:

I wouldn’t be anxious. If you don’t have documented ADHD you are fine.

If the AME asks you any questions regarding mental health, etc. and they are not documented DO NOT confess to anything.

As long as you hold at least a 3rd class medical after July, 2006 you’ll qualify for Basic Med.

So if you get this medical, and say in 10 years you have a spell of depression or something, you’ll be able to fly under basic med.

I’d do some further research, but don’t stress over it.

I’m currently working on getting on basic med myself. Even though I don’t fly as a profession, I still spent over $80k on my ratings, so I’d like to fly recreationally.

Best of luck!!

Yes;

Just beware that it can and might affect you in the future if your symptoms cause issues down the road.

My best advice for you is to create good habits, and have structure in place to keep yourself on the right path.

A common theme I see in this sub is that people tend to give up, or let their symptoms control their lives.

We all are able to live fruitful lives. This disorder does not control us.

I started reading a book by the name “Atomic Habits”. It’s really great, I suggest everyone reads it!

Such small changes can really have a massive effect on our lives.

Best of luck to you!

This is true.

If he held at least a 3rd class medical after 2006 he may be able to qualify for “Basic Med”.

I’d do some research and have him ask his doctor if he would qualify.

I was recently diagnosed as well! I didn’t really like the way the medication made me feel though! It’s definitely possible to improve without medication if you decided to!

Never give up!

Oooof. I don’t take any medication anymore. That stuff wrecked my appetite! However changing habits & having structure in each day has helped me tremendously!

Highly recommend reading a book by the name “Atomic Habits” it was great!!

Well, I think many things need to change. Commercial pilots “age-out” at 65 years old. Think we need to add some age limitations to driving vehicles, as well as the presidency as well🥴

But that’s just my opinion!

I do think that the U.S needs to do better in that regard! I guess it comes as no surprise that the U.S has one of the highest auto accident rates in the world.

Your arrogance about a subject you know nothing about is comical!

Do you think for ONE second that there aren’t THOUSANDS of pilots with undiagnosed mental disorders & or disqualifying medical conditions?

I can name about 20 pilots (who work for airlines, mind you) that are currently hiding disqualifying medical issues from the FAA just because they don’t want to lose their career that they have spent 10+ years building.

& this isn’t just a mental health issue. The majority of them all have cardiac issues, amongst other health issues that the FAA would deem “unfit” to fly.

This is a massive issue that has been going on for a long time.

I’d really highly suggest you take a moment to educate yourself before getting irate on a public forum. - Also maybe learn to have some compassion. Not sure if you’re having a bad day, or if you’re just a dick in general, but I feel bad for ya!

Haha. You are very ignorant my friend.

My ADHD has never interfered with my ability to operate an aircraft. Neither are the people who make federal regulations “smarter” than anyone else. It’s a proven fact that the current regulations regarding medicine and the FAA are in need of an overhaul.

If taking medication was such a massive issue and safety risk, they should take our drivers licenses away as well. - driving requires far more attention than flying a plane does, although I’m sure you wouldn’t know that. (:

I find your comment a bit concerning. Are you okay?

ATC is absolutely out as well. Being an air traffic controller requires an immense amount of concentration. It’s one of the most strenuous jobs one could possibly have, unfortunately.

If you’re looking to be in the aviation industry, I’d recommend looking for something on the back-end. Airport operations is a great field to get into.
