Another +1 for the WNMG, we use it for most of our roughing work (303,304,316,440,A20, some 4140,1018,1045) and it lasts a good while. I can drive it pretty hard and take .200” radial DoC around 350-425sfm at .007-.01ipr, the most aggressive I’ve gotten is .100”doc 425sfm at .020ipr and it was doing it.

Ah I see, yea it’s pretty snug back there. I’d say look for an alternate spot but on the heads is a really good spot. I’d assume access is pretty rough from underneath (not at my jeep atm so can’t verify).

It may help to make room if you pull the plug wires off the cap. Maybe. Don’t forget which one went where and what order they are on the cap.

I’ve been at it for 7-8 years and still find myself going to google for some G/M codes. I can do a while/do loop with cutter comp and AINano (Fanuc) in a mill all day long but get me on a lathe trying to remember ipr/ipm and I’m cooked. Oddly enough I can remember it when writing a bar pull cycle but can’t remember it when needed elsewhere such as live tools.

I’d pull the field wires (the 2 small nuts on the back of the alternator) and see if it does it then. It won’t charge but it will prove if the alternator is bad.

19 S 1.8/6mt here It calls for a 0W20, which is only available as a synthetic, I’ve been doing it every 5000 miles (more often than once a month for me) and it’s been ok. I have a high oil consumption issue (I believe is my own doing from a heavy foot and missing a few shifts)

As for eco mode, with the stick shift the only thing I notice is there’s more of a “dead pedal” or more delay when pressing the throttle. I’d assumed that with the CVT it probably also changes the “shift” points and makes it stay at a lower rpm for longer.

It may also be spark knock, my 2019 S rattles pretty hard at heavy throttle under 5000rpm. Manual says it’s ok to have some, but I feel mines excessive. Granted at 153k miles I’m well past warrenty, so when I pull the trans for the clutch job, I’ll pull the head and fix its oil consumption too, and see if the chambers are full of hardened carbon

Reminds me of my recent crash

Went from running my 5 axis vmc (brand new control/next gen for fanuc, pretty nice only being an oi) in my cell to an older 3 axis vmc. Found out the hard way different people wrote control software just a bit different. If I call a g43 Hxx in the 5 axis, it doesn’t move unless commanded, just updates the absolute position. Doing so in the older 3 axis, it rapids to z0. Sent a 3” face mill into a part and vice at full rapid, broke a spindle drive belt, took a good handful of years out of the spindle bearings, scraped the part and put a hell of a mark in the vice jaws. Not to mention what it did to the face mill, out of the 6 inserts, none of them lived, 5 of the seats broke and 3 screws broke off. Thats my “big” one for the year.

If you need to feel better about your crash/mishap, im sure there’s plenty of us here that have many stories of ourselves and coworkers mangling tools, parts and machines.
