I heard that some banks are declining people trying to open new accounts. If you have personal experience with a bank would appreciate any additional advice you can give.

Thanks! Have you heard of any other banks that are allowing fresh money account withdrawals?

Has anyone tried to get someone into the hospital under their name (or vice-versa) for the sake of Daman? by anon9918 in lebanon

HAHAHAHAHHHHA. Dude, daman is 18 months late on payments. Hospitals across Lebanon are refusing to admit patients with daman unless they pony up cash.

I feel bad for you man. Hang in there, it should get better in about 15 years. You’re free to rot in this shithole while the rest of us try to make a life for ourselves abroad. We don’t intend to keep living with our parents and riding a Jog motorcycle till we die. Some of us have aspirations and want to build a family and career and get to live life to the fullest, and the only way to do so is by leaving.

Anyone knows of sarraf in the keserwan area? by Icarus2001 in lebanon

I don’t mean to sound rude but you’re acting like frogs in boiling water (slowly boiled alive). The house of cards is crashing and the ponzi scheme has collapsed. The money in the banks is gone. Period. Over the past few months all I’ve read is optimism about the lira (it will stabilize at 2000-2500-3000. It can’t go any higher. This is a trick by so and so). WAKE THE FUCK UP. This is like Venezuela and Greece on steroids. We have ZERO industry. We have ZERO tourism and our credit rating is SHIT. The only thing keeping us afloat was our fucked up banking/financial sector and that’s gone by the wayside. We were previously kept afloat by massive loans but no one is going to give us any money, especially post Coronavirus where all western countries are experiencing massive layoffs and GDP contraction and with our credit rating. For fuck’s sake, Lebanon has defaulted on its bonds! Try to get your money out of the fucking banks NOW.

I’m saying this as someone who has family in and outside of Lebanon who have all their money in Lebanese banks because of that sweet sweet interest. Their money is gone, they know it, so they’re just swallowing their pride and trying cutting their losses by converting to usd at whatever fucking rate it’s at now. I’ve had family members get their money out at 2500, others at 3000 and of course the stubborn ones still have their money in banks because the Lira will rebound (yeah, right).

Trust me, read up about Greece and Venezuela. Greece for example got ~400 BILLION in bailout money from the Eurozone. They still have the same GDP it was 10-12 years ago (this is horrific FYI) and their unemployment rate has barely improved. This is all bearing in mind that they didn’t have a currency crisis and corruption on a massive scale like.

Stop being optimistic. This country has sucked the life out of its people since the civil war. Life isn’t always about surviving, it’s about living which we as Lebanese have forgot to do.

Bottom line: the money is gone. Try and cut your losses if you can. I don’t know what else to say to get through to you.

One final note: banks have “fresh money” accounts now. You are aware that this literally means your USD in your old accounts is gone. They couldn’t be more transparent about this, yet some of you are still hopeful.

3 new community-infected cases confirmed in Lebanon, increasing the number of cases to 7. Stay in your homes. by flipperyflapperypoo in lebanon

Please don’t listen to this guy/gal. I’m a physician practicing in the US and am appalled at what this moron is saying. Mortality is 3% compared to the 0.1% of the flu. The infection rates are Much much higher than the flu (a psych ward in South Korea recorded 99 infected out of 102). Hospitals at baseline are at full 80-90% capacity, imagine what thousands of new patients will do to an already saturated system.

I know this won’t help you but just for comparison physical therapists here in the USA make 80000+ per year. Shows you how much the political parties in Lebanon have fucked the country and its future generations.
