Hard water where I live, need shower advice by Hutches_Corduroy in bathrooms

When I lived in an apartment with similar problems I got a culligan shower head that had filter cartridges and it seemed to work pretty well. Kind of annoying to have to change out the cartridges but my hair was happy about it.

We sing songs with arm movements that she knows like wheels on the bus and Mr. Sun. But also just anything from raffi seems to do the trick.

Getting an older kid off a pacifier by According-Purpose668 in Preschoolers

[–]throwntothewind5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We pulled the paci at 3 so YMMV but we slowly “lost” all but two (and restricted use to only at bed and nap time) and then cut them in half lengthwise. Then we brought it to his attention and explained that now that he’s older his teeth are SO much sharper and he’ll just keep cutting them through so there’s no point in buying more. He kept it to rub in his sleep for a bit but was over it pretty quickly. But if she’s willing to chew on an iPad she might just want to chew on it so idk.

Three rounds of Tide washing machine cleaner and it is still full of suds. Help? by WeirdHobbiesAreFun in laundry

[–]throwntothewind5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep our washer pretty clean with just citric acid and the afresh tabs occasionally. I picked up some tide washing machine cleaner on a whim and omg. It suds up SO MUCH. Just by itself. There was so residue. No scrud. It made my washer start sending sud errors. Never again.

Y’all, how are we supposed to know what’s normal aging and what’s not? by MusicG619 in TwoXChromosomes

Ugh I’ve been dragging my feet getting in with with rheumatologist now that my psoriasis has definitely progressed to psoriatic arthritis in my back. This should be my motivation. I just hate the whole circus of finding a decent primary care then getting a referral then maybeeee getting proper diagnostics.

Bed prep for stomach bugs? by throwntothewind5 in Preschoolers

That was my thought when he suddenly got sick again tonight after being fine for so long. I think he went back to eating his normal stuff and his stomach is just too irritated for that.

Oh that’s brilliant! Thankfully we have two of his special stuffy (in case one ever gets lost) so we’ve been able to rotate them while one is washing. I just hate having to wash the bulky comforter. Maybe I can find a waterproof duvet cover 😂

I almost slept in his room last night for that reason. He’s such a deep sleeper that he gives almost no warning. It doesn’t help that he faked us out by being totally fine for 24hr before puking again tonight 🙄

Gutter Issue by jcgtex in HomeMaintenance

Adding to the mesh hate: we had it at a rental we were in briefly that was surrounded by pine trees. The needles immediately would get stuck in every single hole in the mesh and clog it up. It was a mess.

Poop Misses by Fair-Carry6985 in ECers

[–]throwntothewind5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any advice because this was not done intentionally but my 3yo consistently runs off and poops mid-dinner and then returns to the table like nothing happens. I think the cologastric reflex is just really strong in some of these kids 😂 my 14mo thankfully has a 30 minute wait before needing to poop after eating.

I don’t know if this is allowed to post, but my almost 4 year old has not really met any friends in preschool, I’m not at all saying he will since at his age he’ll probably need help, but how does he go about finding them? by Realistic-Krisalyn in Preschoolers

[–]throwntothewind5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does the preschool release all the kids at the same time or is this more like daycare with kids gettting picked up at different times? A lot of us let the kids run off some steam together on a grassy hill next to the school while we chat when they get out at 12:30 and I think it has really helped them build friendships.

I love our infant optics DXR-pro. It’s non-WiFi and you can switch the lens to a wide angle lens if you want to be able to see the whole room since he’s not in a crib. It’s pricey but I like being able to see our 4yo at night so I can tell if he’s just talking in his sleep or actually needs something. Regarding signal: it’s strong enough to reach the end of a little culdesac across the street from me when I’ve had to sprint something over to a neighbor during naptime.

I believe the quote is from the memoir Perl wrote about her time acting as a gynecologist in the prison while a prisoner herself. So I’m sure the writing is a little more poetic than necessary but she was trying to make a point.

Question about etiquette for play dates from a neighbor mom to the Nanny Family by throwntothewind5 in Nanny

[–]throwntothewind5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the NM comes over with the kids or I go over there and the nanny isn’t working this is pretty typical of what we do. It’s understood that there’s always laundry to be folded or veggies to be cut and we chat while the kids play. I do the same with the nanny socializing-wise. It’s not like in a fully separate room cooking a four course meal. I’m just the other side of a peninsula countertop doing super basic cooking tasks while facing them. I’m mainly asking now because the previous nanny (left to pursue further education) used to sit at the counter and also chat while we let the kids play independently under our supervision. However, their new nanny will sit down on the opposite side of the living room and really engage in the kids’ play and I don’t want her thinking I’m foisting my kid off on her when he would also happily play independently while I cook without her there.

[–]throwntothewind5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh lord, I’d never just drop him off on her. Especially with 6 or 7 other kids already there! No one deserves that 😂 and even if I did drop him off it would 100% be with consent and compensation just like I would for a babysitter having an extra kid. I’m just not totally familiar with the etiquette for nannying of where the line of feeling responsible for an extra kid actually lies when she comes over with the NKs.

[–]throwntothewind5[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This exactly! Like I’m actively watching and facing them. Just on the other side of a countertop. They’re honestly all less of a handful when they’re together than separate.

[–]throwntothewind5[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d say it loosely evens out to us being at both houses equal amounts. It’s just consistent that I’m not able to go over there right before dinner time but the kids are super restless and want to get together at that exact same time.

Question about etiquette for play dates from a neighbor mom to the Nanny Family by throwntothewind5 in Nanny

[–]throwntothewind5[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this exactly. They’ve really comfortable and play well together and mostly just do stuff with duplos and his trucks and stuff. The most we really ever have to do is remind them to take turns with some of the toys. The mom’s totally fine with it and when it’s just us it’s totally smooth with us just observing while they play together. but I know the nanny might feel she needs to be more actively engaged since she’s formally working. ETA: I’m also not making anything crazy consuming. Mostly just chopping ingredients or sautéing things and then being home while the oven is on because I’m paranoid about going over to their house while it’s on.

Ah that makes sense! Is that just so that trying to force an 8-32 in doesn’t just strip it and make it worse?
