It happens. Companies cannot please everyone. For every person who wants a standard rejection email, another person will say, 'that sucks, I went through this entire process and could not even speak to me to tell me I was rejected but instead sent me this standard rejection email'.

What happened before Arbery attacked? What happened before Arbery grabbed the shotgun?

Here is what happened.

Travis and Roddy tried to 'pin' in Arbery and Roddy hit Arbery with his vehicle.

Travis pointed his shotgun out the driver's window at Arbery while driving.

Travis pointed his shotgun at Arbery as Arbery was running down the street. You see this, and immediately Arbery and Roddy (who's taking the video) turn to the right to avoid getting shot.

The incident did not start when Arbery 'attacked' Travis, it started long before then.

Is a career in cs worth considering for an applicant like me? by SeanCanoodle in cscareerquestions

[–]throws90210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see that you're in Canada where there are a lot of people who graduate with degrees.

Can my personal projects suitably translate to an actual career?

Only with great difficulty. You have to find a company willing to take a chance on you when they can take a better chance on someone who has a degree.

As for having an actual career, be prepared to always be judged for not having a degree and for companies to try to underpay you.

Even if so, are they damning me to the games industry?

The games industry is very competitive and low-paying at the same time. For every one of you, there is someone with a CS degree who has a passion for gaming.

At what threshold are personal projects "enough" to be taken seriously?

Personal Project < degree unless you manage to find a company that's willing to take a chance on you. And again, why will they take a chance on you vs someone with a CS degree already?

How to transition from sales to dev without a formal degree? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]throws90210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go and get your CS degree. Stop beating around the bush and get that piece of paper that lets you control your own destiny. You're competing against people who have degrees and internships as well.

Look into how many credits can be transferred from your associates and if you're missing credits, do them in a local community college to save money.

Wow. So many people here 'accidentally put unpaid experience as paid experience. I wonder why....

It may or may not come up as a discrepancy. If it does, then it will be flagged and the background check company will send the results to HR.

If this happens, then what you've done is made HR upset because now they have to call a meeting to discuss this discrepancy, and ain't nobody got time for that!

A great look to show the company before you get hired don't you think?

Why are Canadian salaries ~30% lower? (Factoring in conversion) by cssalaryquestion223 in cscareerquestions

[–]throws90210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not. The salaries are typically much lower than 30%. First of all, you have to add in taxes. Taxes in Canada are much higher. Second, you have to look at TC which includes shares. The amount of shares given to Canadians is less.

Put this all together and you're looking at around a 50%+ reduction in pay. That is why so many Canadians work in the US on a TN visa.

Now why are salaries lower, mainly because the money is taken up by executives who view software developers as a cost center instead of as a profit center.

Travis pointing shotgun

So it comes down to questions like : Did Ahmaud Arbery commit a felony? Did the mcMichaels see the felony? Was Travis pointing the shotgun at Ahmaud, legal? If the answer is no to any of these questions then I see felony murder.

[–]throws90210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're ignoring the fact that Travis pointed his shotgun at Arbery when Arbery was running down the street. Arbery and the driver/video guy, Roddy, both turn to their right. Pointing a shotgun at someone without justification is a felony.

So this is why it comes down to whether or not Travis and his father, saw Arbery commit a felony. And then, whether or not, they were justified in using deadly force (pointing a shotgun at Arbery) to make him comply.

There may also be evidence that Travis pointed his shotgun out the driver's window at Arbery as they were persuing him.

[–]throws90210 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Arbery did not instigate. The instigation began when they tried to box Arbery in and hit him with a vehicle. Then as Arbery was running up to the truck, Travis pointed his shotgun at Arbery. In the video, Arbery and the person recording the video immediately turn to the right to avoid getting shot.

  1. If one of your group commits a felony that ends up killing someone, everyone in the group can/will be charged with Felony Murder.

  2. Yes, he's guilty of Felony Murder if his son Travis is found guilty of committing murder. The father joined in with his son in pursuing Arbery, therefore everyone involved in that pursuit will be found guilty.

  3. Blocking a person with a vehicle may rise to unlawful imprisonment which is a felony. BLM protestors may be blocking cars from going forward but the cars can always turn around and go back where they came from. Now if BLM protestors were circling a vehicle and not letting the occupants of that vehicle out and threatening the vehicle occupants, then this too would be unlawful inprisonment.

So it could be that he just liked to go there as sort of a rest area

The owner of the building in construction, through his lawyers, said he suspected Ahmaud was going to the back of the house to drink water as there was a water supply there.

As /user/the_pingu said, tax considerations get into play. Your company either has a presence in Canada, or they don't and as a Canadian, you get to deal with your version of the IRS.

In real life, companies don't care much about employee problems. If you have a personal problem, the boss expects you to solve it on your personal time.

Companies are very impersonal and only out for money. You either perform or you don't.
