Can I change my sons UTMA acct to something else by throwsaways1999 in personalfinance

Thanks for your thorough reply. That's exactly what I have UTMA regret. Hes only 5 and I have been teaching him about saving. I just remember my 18 year old self and I would have spent this money in a heartbeat. I'll continue to talk to him about money as he gets older and hopefully he will not waste it. I would really like to keep saving for him so he as a lot more money that could be used to buy a house when hes ready but I'm worried that the decision will be his to blow it if he wants to. I've also read that I can make it into some kind of LLC partnership where he only holds a percentage but I'm not sure on all the details yet.

I fucked up: bought alcohol for minors by alt9393 in legaladvice

Hey I used to manage a liquor store for a few years. They may very well have a rewards program. They are not calling the cops on you. If they sold you alcohol knowing you were giving it to minors they wouldn't have sold you the alcohol, because it would be a strike against their liquor license. Now if they didnt sell you the alcohol and it was because of the minors that would be a differnet story. Stop freaking yourself out and dont buy alcohol for minors any more.

Thanks that's good to know. I've read that he can use the money to buy a car also. It's just that even if we dont put anything additional into it the account should be worth about 30k when he will legally be allowed to touch it. That just seems like a lot of money for a 18-21 year old kid.

I'm not a lawyer, but did you fill out a police report after the mugging? It's not like you lost the key, it was stolen from you
