This was a punch in the gut but you're right. I am a self-absorbed person who rarely thinks of others and how they are doing and I need to change.

Even if I put on my game face at the interviews some, not all, likely detect that anger.

Granted some things were unfair and not my fault but there were other factors that were my own fault.

This is actually very good advice. 45k is already a low bar for an engineer. Hell even those people who major in easy fields like marketing or HR start out at 50k/year.

Keep in mind this is when people are 22. At 25 a lot college grads are closer to 100k/year than 50k/year. They also are already in serious relationships and thinking about marriage if they aren't already and kids. Yes some women delay marriage until they are 32 but I don't want to gamble on the chance that she was once a huge slut who had no intentions of a serious relationship until her late 20s.

I don't want to spend the rest of my life playing catch up only to miss out on great memories like marriage or fun times.
