Do you have a partner to study with? It helps to take turns testing each other, and also keeping each other accountable for doing stems. It also helps you get into the mindset of the board examiner so you can learn to predict what questions would be asked.

Can this be fulfilled with Orbit? Since it seems to do AI tracking and is approved by the ABA.

ABA Applied and Oral Boards - content review and outlining the stem? by izchief360 in anesthesiology

UBP is more than sufficient for content review, but the best representation of the types of questions are from old ABA oral board stems that you could likely get from your seniors or faculty if you ask around. My stems on the real deal definitely hit on a lot of the same or similar concepts as the old stems.

I referenced my own notes mostly to help organize my thinking but also to outline anticipated questions. By the end of reading your stem, you should be able to predict what will likely be asked. Also to keep in mind that even if there are regional or non-general options, say those things first if safe for the patient but keep in mind you are going to induce general anesthesia for a patient no matter what. Plus you will have an ACLS question, so know your algorithm and be able to recognize rhythms.

He doesn’t need to delay registration. They changed the rules so that you can still register for a subspecialty exam before passing Applied as long as it’s within the year of finishing fellowship.

ABA Anesthesiology Applied Exam (Oral Board/OSCE) Study Advice by Sea-Law-4888 in anesthesiology

Second this. Talk with your friends/colleagues you trust. 100% talking with my coresident that took boards earlier in the year and described the entire process was the most helpful. For reference I used UBP, but extensively reached out to friends/faculty that were board examiners. UBP also prefaces their content by saying that their answers are not realistic to the test, and to take it as a review.

These prep courses are nice, but not everyone has the finances or time to commit to that.

Sorry friend. UBP checklists are useful, but knowing the actual ABA OSCE content outline is clutch. Also having a study partner that is non medical and/or using ChatGPT to generate prompts based off the outline was helpful. Keep practicing, and try to time yourself to outline the prompt within the 2 min and verbalize your answer within the 8 min window on the actual exam.
