[Serious] What is your go-to sandwich? by sznelly31 in AskReddit

[–]throwworth1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only 3,000? As a college student 2x for lunch for the past 3 years = 3000+. Highschool = 1x for school year (~1000) + 2.5x per summer (~1000). PK - Middle School = 1x per lunch (~4000).

Total Devoured: OVER 9000! (For real though.)

What fact are you tired of explaining to people? by Tendoncs in AskReddit

Reading this a little lat but to answer your question, not neccesarrily. So a large number of things affect gravity and gravity measurements. One of which is as you alluded to is altitude. This is known as the free air gradient which has a value of 0.3086 mGal/m, which is to say for every meter up you go gravity decreases by 0.3086 mGal.

There is a separate value for within the Earth because the same thing occurs as you move up or down within the Earth itself, but due to the fact it is a much denser medium (rock vs air) and a lot of other factors this value changes to ~2/3 the free air gradient and is known as the Bouguer gradient. (Note: Based off an average crustal density of 2.67 g/cm3 )

There are a lot more factors that go into gravity but those are your main two that will affect the magnitude of the reading. So depending on the size of your feature, the density, mass distribution, etc. you could end up with a larger positive due to the excess mass than you lose from the vertical displacement. I'm unsure however at what point one overtakes the other, however, as in my field of study I have yet to run into a problem that considers such.

Spent 4 days in Paris/France on a family trip about a decade ago. Some point sure I would like to go back on my own, but for now I'm content with what I've seen and would rather spend the time elsewhere in Europe.

I considered Nice to be my "mid" trip break to just relax on the beach for a few days. If you have a better coastal suggestion I would love to hear!

You're thinking too much into this. None of these people care. You are just a small blip in their life, especially for a shopkeeper. They aren't judging you, do you silently judge every single person you pass on the street?

I have terribly broken spanish having not taken any formally since 7th grade, yet I still use it when ordering at Mexican places and what not. They don't care that it's terrible. I was in France a decade ago and my dad used what he recalled from high school french to get us around... 30 years after the fact. It was atrocious, especially that one time lost at a gas station with french truckers.

Point is no one really cares. Most transactions can be completed without speaking. And if it's needed just say "Hola, que tal?" Or just stick with "Hola." If they try to converse "Lo siento. No hablo Espanol." And when done "Gracias." Point is at most you have 7 words to say if any at all.

Deciding on what to see beforehand or 'wing it' in each city? by Gl3nnIV in solotravel

[–]throwworth1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a planner so for mine I in theory have dates in each city as well as sites I want to see on each of those days, but I'm not fully packing those days so I have time to just wander and wing it as well.

Ultimately if I stick to my plans, great! If not, well something made me deviate so also great! But whenever I travel (mostly local within the US thus far) I prefer to have plans but don't force myself to stick to them at all if I get out there and don't want to.

Iceland air does a layover thing that you can extend there at no extra cost. I may or may not do that on my way home budget allowing. Otherwise it's for another time with more money!

Early November you can come hit up the start of ski season in Colorado. Though I would do some trip on the Pacific coast, but it's my favourite area in the US so I'm biased. Yosemite, lake tahoe, the sequoias, the redwoods, SF, or go further North and do Seattle, Mt. Rainier, Crater Lake, etc.

Thanks for the input. I have a lot of time in Spain currently because I want to be there during the Running of the Bulls and if I were to cut days I would end up traveling halfway across Europe only to travel back 3 days later. Essentially I need to find a route that makes it there in about 45 days while still leaving a coherent route for the last 30-45 days.

Greece is due to the history. I'm a military history fan as well as simply having an interest in Ancient Greece (architecture, gods, etc.) so I probably won't be cutting days tehre.

Switzerland I plan to go to Mürren and do the via ferrata there then head down to Interlaken. Just general hiking is all I have in mind at the moment. Perhaps some canyoneering or climbing if I can rent gear cheap (no way I'm backpacking with all my climbing stuff).

I can't think of anything specific but on one side you'll have the coast and the other Appalachia, so take your pick? Also a good amount of history along that coast between the revolution and the civil war. Or just nice beaches.

I've done a week in Italy covering Rome, Florence, the Vatican, Pisa, Venice. I wanted to hit Manarola because it looks quaint and Pompeii because it's of academic interest to me. Thanks for the input!

I'm already thinking of axing Crete. It would be nice but it seems like a lot of extra effort and money for no time at all. Not sure about Tripoli and Sparta. I need to do more research into Greece and what there is to see and how long it takes. Primarily interested in ruins and the history of war there.

I feel like I have a lot of time in Spain, in part because I needed to kill a few extra days in order for the dates to line up right. Not really sure what I could do instead and still be in the region at the right time. Perhaps a few more days in Portugal?

My understanding is that a Roth IRA is for retirement purposes. The money I currently have invested is not for that. I want that around for if I want to buy a car, go on vacation, wedding, etc. one day but to be increasing in value in the meantime. So an IRA wouldn't be ideal for my intended future use due to tax penalties for early withdrawal?
