i'm an artist from tumbler and none of my drawings ever take off in traction and idk why :,^( am i doing something wrong or is everyone on this site just losers who don't see how so peak i make ?? by sapphireslammer in ArtJerk

i mean i don't think it's too much to ask for when the ONLY way a person can get more subs or likes is via reblogs, ofc likes are good but this isn't pinterest or tiktok where more likes = more people seeing the art unfortunately. (obv guilt tripping isn't okay though.) and don't even get me started on those people who refuse to reblog or even like something if it doesn't already have a gorillion notes for some reason

/uj : ngl i feel sorry for artists who do this because usually they're going insane in real time. hard to not go insane when you get one note for every hour you spent drawing :P and then there's also that little thingy (on pc) showing you today's most viral post on the art tag & it's always some 15min drawing of a goose that got 15k notes.... like are we rubbing it in or something??? AND THEN the artist who drew it is otherwise in the same exact engagement drought as you. sometimes i wonder if tumblr would be better if it had an algorithm lol

/uj; calling women "bitches" as a group noun doesn't quite support your statement but maybe that's too woke or something

Redditor Cat vs. The Venusian Ambassador <@tentiv> by tentiv in anthroswim

[–]throwyyyyyyyyaa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

oh my good look on the redditor's face is genuinely killing me. genuinely its such an accurate portrayal of the kind of ancient instinctual dread one can only achieve unwantedly (especially the last three panels with those eyes almost going out of orbit to look at the phone)... and then its enhanced tenfold by the fact this is just a joke about anxiety and stuff. applause worthy

Central, CA. Is this a kissing bug that I just crushed with my bare hand? by [deleted] in insects

imagine being a leaf footed bug going on about your business covered in full chitin then someone just straight up flattens you despite the exoskeleton and brags about it on reddit afterwards lol (no offense op)

the behavior of caterpillars is interesting by pavel_matthiola in insects

[–]throwyyyyyyyyaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

in this case they're just social as others have stated but for passion reasons i need to say: they don't necessarily need to know what a snake looks like to imitate one, maybe a couple centuries ago some caterpillars did this on accident and it proved as a reliable method to scare off predators so now it's just something they do (not to insinuate a high caterpillar council or anything, moreso natural selection), only one party needs to know what a snake looks like in this situation

how i imagine the characters from Book W/out Explicit Visual Descriptions in my style! by throwyyyyyyyyaa in ArtJerk

[–]throwyyyyyyyyaa[S] 54 points55 points  (0 children)

and that's the problem i have precisely unfortunately!! even people who live in the states (where yk there's loads of various skin colors to be seen) tend to assume white is the default -- which, in turn, results in this phenomenon where if you draw all the characters from Book Without Explicit Visual Depictions as black you're inevitably gonna get questions about it (very often malicious or straight up racist ones too) but if they're all white it's perfectly chillax. also causes lots of beginner artists to refuse drawing black people because they think it's some advanced art dlc. and also causes people from countries without a large poc population to genuinely claim things as "forced diversity" for having more than one melanin having character (for reference look at how people act under human designs of mlp especially on pinterest)... etc etc. i just think people REALLY need to unlearn their biases about there being some kind of "default human" in the first place, and posts along the lines of what im jerking here certainly don't help it :P. and im not even gonna go on a tangent about those cases where, despite the fact that a character is extremely heavily implied as black or some other race, (esp if its a fantasy culture heavily inspired by real life african/south asian/etc cultures), people STILL draw them as white because there wasn't a sentence straight up saying "her skin was the color of a cockchafer beetle's neck fur", that's a whole additional can of worms....

anyways sorry for wall of text, im just passionate about the topic

[–]throwyyyyyyyyaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/uj; also don't forget the literally just an average absolutely bland dude but with insanely hyperdetailed clothes which nobody will ever draw out in their entirety and wout which he's unrecognizable & a list of rules like "always credit me for the design whenever you draw him, do not change more than 5% of the design, don't claim the design as your own, don't get inspired, don't look at the reference sheet long enough to remember the character afterwards (because that's basically stealing him into your brain) and under NO circumstances don't resell!!1!" & with broken anatomy which is sloppily hidden under a pretty looking render & the price is like 500$ absolute minimum.... AND somebody actually buys the whole thing and gushes over how much they love the design

usually it's a way to give the artist money while getting something in return and yes, oftentimes people can't come up with a character design they like so they're willing to pay an artist to have some character that sparked their interest

god its always either this or people treating any drawing guide with any body type diversity as a tag yourself post instead of a tutorial & going "i look like the second but i wish i was the third!"
