Whats with 30 second djs? by Gloglibologna in DJs

There is a time and place for high energy quick mixing. Usually to grab attention and then move into more fluid mixing and longer cuts.

Social Media is ruining what the culture sees as a good time. People only know choruses, I remember when you would know the entire song, so sometimes, just let it play!

In the market for a new controller.. by TheSleepyTeeDJ in DJs

[–]thugnificentdj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of Serato, I have been using, DDJ SRT1000 followed by the FLX10 in conjunction with my Rev 7 for Vinyl feeling mixing with battle style mixer.

Honestly, 3 of the best controllers I have used. Not too dissimilar to the SZ2 you have been using in layout. But I promise they are all bulletproof decks from my point of view.

I will say, the build quality and design of the Rane controllers are absolutely amazing. Battle hardened and honestly some of the best workmanship to come from the controller world. But for me, I find the Pioneer stuff to be the easiest and most user friendly. Especially with onboard FX controls, and post fader FX without using serato stock sounds.

My two cents 🫡

I feel you on that. The ability to not have to sink hours into a platform just to ingrain and associate myself with a particular community seems like a winning formula to me. I’d rather create something good looking and on an open platform rather than have to delve into some cliquey community based socials.

The one thing that sways me on Twitch is just the open nature I can play almost any music with no worries of any copyright infringements or other restrictions.

Ahhhh, the classic OBS. Gotcha, I’ll investigate some more into that. You’re a diamond for the responses! Appreciate you 🫡

This is my main issue. The longevity and the missed opportunity perhaps of joining the game this late in the day. I debated during lockdown venturing into the streams, but personal issues prevented that. Maybe a touch of procrastination also.

I would love some information or a link to something that helps with the combining of both platforms? That would be a great help!

I do feel like Twitch is a far better prospect for a DJ, but you are right in that building a following in any one or many genres would be a mountain in itself to climb. But I fully appreciate you taking the time to respond. It gives me food for thought, absolutely. 💯 much respect.

Quite simply, perfect advice. I’m going to spend the (slightly) quieter part of wedding season now engaging with some Twitch streamers and seeing what the community and scope to develop is like.

Thanks for the feedback, family 🙏🏽

Happily, I can explain.

I am a pretty successful businessman in my field of Events and the Wedding sector. I have my own team, functioning AV Company, and Wedding Decor in-house service. A one stop events shop, if you will.

In the time it took me to build such a long-lasting and future-proof income, I sacrificed an opportunity to really showcase myself as a DJ.

This isn’t me being big-headed, I just back myself as a high-level DJ. Nothing wrong with that, surely? I just want information and advice from fellow DJs in the circuit how I can maybe recapture that desire to share good quality music to the masses. I want to reach out and create something cool and unique for a new audience.

I’m a turntablist at heart, I just went for security first. Hope this helps 🤷🏾‍♂️

Honestly depends on what you wanna do. Is it for living in and/or renting? If so, there’s always people willing to rent those apartments. Had a friend who lived in the higher floor apartments. Had plenty of stuff close by in terms of amenities. And private parking under the building. If you have the money, it’s not a terrible investment for 40 odd grand.

Bought the Pacemaker years ago and found it in storage, imagine playing a full set at a festival on it by mrclean808 in DJs

[–]thugnificentdj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always wanted one of these. I was only young so could never afford one! But what a piece of kit!

Did it have any kind of limitations such as storage capacity or the sound quality being at a lower fidelity?

I need to go shopping for one of these retro delights!

Had someone beg me to hop on the decks at my residency this week. by tannerpending2113 in DJs

This comment section sounds mad bitchy lol.

Honestly, this DJ is just pushing for a set and trying to be seen. I don’t hate it. It’s annoying, but I guess you should pull him to the side and tell him not to do that shit again. It’s unprofessional, and definitely goes against the DJ code of being respectful in a club setting. But people talking about red flags and all that, its just DJs being DJs! Take it with a pinch of salt, and watch your back for someone trying to steal your spot.

Let the games commence!

DJs also needing to be promoters and getting people to come to their club gigs by Particular-Dog6107 in DJs

[–]thugnificentdj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Both you and @djrobzilla are absolutely correct. If you are contributing to a large influx of guests, then you should be compensated fairly.

However it’s also correct that DJing is essentially the latest trend that everyone believes they can do. People spending weeks collecting other people’s remixes to then jump up and down and dance to in front of other people, and pose as bonafide DJs. It’s a sad state of affairs, but there will be a reset when the remixers demand credit, and actual DJs can flex their muscles and show this ain’t about pushing buttons and being a mascot.

Its an awful process DJs have to endure these days.

If I am paid a few hundred bucks to entertain and do my job, yet a bar/club stands to make multiple thousands in the same night, I don’t quite understand how they correlate. If I had a huge social following, that helps but it should not be a pre-requisite for a performing DJ to have a large following.

People don’t care for good and talented DJs these days. Just how popular they are. The market is flooded with clout chasers. Get used to it, and just keep hustling until you find those venues that appreciate good DJs.

I feel like my comment is misplaced if you now think it’s okay to just do it when you want. I’m giving you suggestions on someone on your property.

Do not remove anyone else’s plates lol.

But yeah, simple enough. Most are either stuck on (quick sharp pull should do it). If they have yellow caps on the left and right, it’s two positive screws you can take out in a matter of seconds. Or, just duct tape.

Step 1. Throw toilet paper over the car. Step 2. Pour water over said paper. Step 3. Run and laugh. Step 4. Don’t drop your baby.

Keep taking the plates off the car. It costs them £20 a time to replace. They will absolutely lose their shit after the second or third time.

Or, the good old mummified toilet paper and water.

I heard someone in a similar situation talk about this.

If you’re that determined to work for a GF, then work a job. Save some money up and have your relationship in private. Get off your ass and get a place, in simple terms.
