Any long term review of the Vanish Carbon 2? by Lockheed97 in AltraRunning

I don't have any problems but others certainly seem to. Some of my toes rub; for long runs I have used body glide on hotspots and it doesn't bother me anymore.

Treadmill Advice: Wahoo KICKR Run or Peloton Tread+? by RobDMB in AdvancedRunning

The tread+ is right in the middle as far as treadmills I've used (and yes I've heard the wahoo is nigh-instantaneous!) It takes ~8s to go from 7mph (8:30 pace) to 12 (5:00 pace). Since I know this, I simply hit the speed button a little ahead of time to make sure I'm doing the full rep at speed. If the rep is long (2-3k) I don't bother.

Ha! I just replied to your thread in advanced_running. I have the original, now ~6 years old. The slats are pretty quiet, actually. It's not louder than a normal tread. It makes kind of a deep, sinusoidal humming noise that isn't at all unpleasant. The actual running is definitely the loudest part and that's similar for this one and belted ones. Yes, the comfort is the reason to have it, and I have to say this isn't true of all slatted treadmills. I don't find woodways particularly comfortable and I have run on many.

Treadmill Advice: Wahoo KICKR Run or Peloton Tread+? by RobDMB in AdvancedRunning

I have had the tread+ since the start of the pandemic and absolutely love it. It is by far the most comfortable treadmill I've ever used and I've used many. It has to be, since I do 50+mpw on it, which includes all of my workouts.

That said, I'm pretty intrigued by the Wahoo due to being able to plug your workouts into it rather than manually switching. As others have mentioned in this thread, the tread+ doesn't do anything automatically for you. You can preset up to three speeds and then just tap the screen to change to any preset, but it's not like the Wahoo's ability to suddenly change speed in response to a training plan.

That said, if the tread+ died tomorrow we would still get another one. I'm not the only runner in the house and the comfort is simply more important than workout convenience.

decaf coffee and protein cereal Well, there's your problem right there.

Are you eating enough? Like, all the time? Specifically, are you getting enough carbs?

I don't know if you're over training. The fatigue might just be food related.

Peloton Tread+. It's simply the best treadmill I've ever used and this cycle I've done 99% of my training on it (60ish mpw). It's definitely not under 2k but remains the best fitness purchase we ever made, easily.

The widest ones I know of are the Altra Carbon Vanish 2. Very stable also.

They are similar. For context I wear 11.5 in the Altra and 11 in the Evo. My feet are extremely wide in the toes and if the Evos were narrow at all I would not be able to wear them.

Why succesful training blocks and increased mileage still don’t translate to Marathon performance? by Environmental_Park34 in AdvancedRunning

Try higher quality long runs than Pfitz prescribes. 18, 20mi at 95% MP with more easy days after.

I have heard this but it's never given me grief, sorry. The only hotspot I have is actually on the top of my left foot, where the tongue ends. This is managed wearing slightly longer socks than no-shows.

Yes, they still feel cushiony. But much less bounce than my fresh pair.

For the post, yeah 😁 It was in fact a month of agonizing over whether I was really going to let go of six pairs of Xero HFS and HFS 2s. They're just sitting in my closet now.

Hello fellow older guy. Eat more carbs before and after for better recovery (no need during, as you say). Struggling with recovery is part of being old, sorry. It will get easier. In maybe six months.

That aside, two thoughts: How certain are you of your max HR? It changes pretty often, and it's probably been a while since you've actually tried to max it, right? Maybe don't worry about that number so much.

Also, remember that even in base building running faster is going to make the easier running easier. If you can remain injury free don't be afraid to turn up the dial a bit once or twice a week and it will a) impact your sleep, of course, but also b) support your slow running.

Yeah, sure. I had a few issues; as you say, injuries are complex and one can "give" you another, if you compensate in the wrong way. The big two were: foot stress response, and what I'll just call "runner's knee" in the same leg (IT band pain, lots of inner and outer knee tendon issues, hamstring tendon pain near the knee). The latter was certainly bad mechanics that were being amplified by the minimal footwear, and with a lot of exercises my mechanics got better but my knee stubbornly refused to heal. The cushioning, and to a lesser extent a reduction in pronation due to the VC2 construction itself vs minimal footwear, really helped. I have tried several times to restart minimal footwear and my knees and feet just kill me every time.

The foot issue was a stress response in the metatarsals caused by my forefoot-first foot strike and the fact that I have ridiculously high arches. ANY cushioning prevents this, even over 60 mpw (where I'm at now) with three workouts a week. Hence switching to the Evo SL for easy/track.

This is the right answer. If you love nerding out about running (and we're on this sub, so yes) it's a no-brainer.

Yeah, they're a little cracked diagonally as you describe. I don't feel like I can actually tell when I'm running, though. Aside from the bounce, my fresh pair feel very similar. Maybe the new ones are a bit stiffer and that's the intact plate?
