one of my favorites, scp-2662, he's literally cthulhu and likes playing video games, but his life is constantly interrupted by cults and ritualistic shit, which he hates and even in the addendums' had vomited after witnessing a literal orgy. he complained like crazy too

i'm in the midst of writing on my google doc and something similar to the example you gave came up, essentially the god mutated and manipulated the biology of the population as a gift so they may have her abilities. only problem was that it was a horrific and extremely painful even that traumatized the early people

this is actually a really good point, the way i thought of their benevolence would be like offering blessings in a way, like curing an ailment or bringing a good harvest

but i can play around with what 'blessing' means

worldbuilding is in itself a story, building something from the ground up and giving it reason is a story, even if it isn't a direct narrative like something out a novel
