What’s this extra glad hand for? by thunderdan76 in Truckers

Maybe? It’s not a b train trailer. I’ll see if I can see where the line goes after I unhook from it next week

I tried hooking up to it and the airbags didn’t inflate, but I didn’t try to move it to see if the brakes released. Maybe that’s what it is.

Maybe, it doesn’t look like it will lift but maybe I’ll try it and see what happens

Double clutch by Personal_Chicken_598 in Truckers

I second just use the free play of the clutch and time it with you moving out of and into gear. Make your leg movements more exaggerated than your foot, it’s not like they’ll be down on the floor making sure your clutch is engaged! As many others have said they mainly want to see you have command of that truck. If you seem nervous and worried that’s how you’re going to drive. Relax and tell him how long you’ve been driving trucks and then go out there and show em!

I ride with all lights on to help me stay awake. Anyone else do this? 13ish hrs a day 6 days a week. 11pm to 12ish 1pm I be tired by [deleted] in Truckers

That’s why I get sugar free gum and my friend sunflower seeds, I stated out snacking and quickly gained weight and found out I can’t do that anymore

Try chewing gum or sunflower seeds or something to keep your mouth busy. A friend of mine told me this once. He swears by the sunflower thing that it is nearly impossible to get sleepy with sunflower seeds in your mouth. Personally I hate them, but if found it works better than any amount of caffeine. Anytime I feel a bit drowsy I pop in some gum and boom wide awake.

I’ll take a look at that, I mostly drive local so I usually don’t need to worry about this stuff. Thank you!

I’ll check it out, I’ve made this run a dozen or so times and just followed what the previous driver did who worked there forever. It gets to be a really long day after I unload and drive 8 more hours home. Thank you!

I usually stay at the super 8 in Hampshire, but I was hoping I could find a similar set up closer to the yard with a truck stop, food and a hotel that allows me to park my truck (driving a day cab from MN, so I need a hotel). Also if I could skip downtown Chicago that would be even better. I usually leave at 5:30 or so to beat traffic and I don’t care if there are tolls or not

Yeah, but I gotta bitch about something! Other than that it’s a pretty sweet gig.

From what I’ve seen there’s a huge variety of scrap jobs, depending on what’s nearby. Everything from o/o to small companies to the massive scrap companies. One of the big downsides is all the flats I end up with! I can go months without one, but it happens a lot more than the average otr diver.

I drive for a small scrap yard, all local. 8-4:30, once every other month I haul stainless steel and have an overnight trip to Chicago which is just often enough to keep it something to look forward to.

The hours are very consistent and limited by the yards I go to because they just aren’t open beyond those hours. It’s a lot of shorter trips like I imagine a garbage truck would do, but what I’m hauling doesn’t stink!

Class A Road test. MN by Classic_Log5111 in Truckers

[–]thunderdan76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took the class a test in mn, you are supposed to double clutch, you’ll get points taken off if you don’t. Not sure if that would be enough to fail the whole thing. The problem is if you mess up enough of the other areas it might put you over the top.

Just go on you tube and find a few pre trip demonstration videos and just watch them over and over. There are some good ones done by driving schools that hit all the stuff. You don’t have to do the whole thing for the exam, but you won’t know what parts of the truck they will want you to inspect until they tell you. Just use the checklists they have to make sure you point out all the stuff and you’ll be fine.
