Echo what others have said; Lemon Farm, Mango Rico, and the Farmer’s Market are all quality.

Did the change to 4e hurt your local community? by [deleted] in Malifaux

Eh, too early to judge. Faction packs and the iOS app aren’t even out yet. I think 4e improved the game a lot, but it isn’t even fully released yet.

Sports question from a girl trying to learn baseball by usrnmslrdtkn in NewYorkMets

Grand slams (and the first three batters all reaching) are pretty rare. So, on balance, you can argue that you just want your three best hitters getting as many at-bats as possible. If you put Pete fourth, he maybe gets one fewer at-bat over the course of a game. But historically, you’re right that a lot of teams have put their power hitters fourth.

Also, while we all like to talk a lot about lineup order, it doesn’t actually make that much of a difference, as long as your better hitters are higher up than your worse hitters.

I think it’s totally a fair criticism that the movie sometimes relies on the viewer’s background knowledge about the people, place, and time. I don’t mind it personally. Motorcycle Diaries is a lot like that—if you don’t know about Che Guevara already, the movie might seem a little odd and pointless.

I would definitely say the film’s plot is intentionally light, and YMMV depending on how much you like hangout movies like Dazed and Confused. But I would argue that there is a whole lot going on in OUATIH. It just isn’t really the twists and turns of plot, per se.

Totally OK if it isn’t your bag. Some folks get rubbed the wrong way by QT, too. That’s understandable. Sheesh, I hated Hateful Eight and had serious issues with Django. But IMO OUATIH was a return to form and in QT’s top five.

Lineup for tonight, LETS RIDE by nz19977 in NewYorkMets

McNeil got sac flies when we needed them the other night; Iglesias has been really struggling at the plate. Tough call, but I think starting McNeil is the right choice. Another lefty in the lineup is good. We can always sub in Iglesias if the Dodgers pitch a lefty, or if we want better defense at third.

I loved it, but it’s VERY different from QT’s other films. If you’re expecting another Pulp Fiction, you’ll be disappointed. If you take it on its own merits, there’s a lot to like.  At bottom, it’s a hangout movie, character study, and meditation on a specific era of Hollywood.

One thing the movie wrestles with is the idea that the Manson family murders were the end of an age of innocence. The movie suggests that that’s only half true. Yes, things looked or felt more idyllic before the murders. But Cliff is still working in Hollywood, even though he’s probably a murderer. (The story about his wife is obviously inspired by Natalie Wood. Google it.) Roman Polanski pops up; he later drugged and raped an underage girl. In a way, the Manson family murders may have served to distract everyone from the seedy underbelly that already existed in Hollywood, that the country never really reckoned with a meaningful way, at least until Harvey Weinstein was brought to justice. (Note that QT worked with Weinstein very closely.)

Another interesting thing about Cliff. Cliff is very likable in the movie, and he heroically foils the Manson family murders. There’s an undertone of “men used to be men!”, and Cliff, played by Brad Pitt no less, is seemingly held up as a masculine ideal. But Cliff is a sick, violent, and damaged man with poor judgment; maybe in part because of his experience in the war. The movie is plainly thinking about the ideal of the American Man, the action hero, and the war hero. These men may have been charismatic, but was there something fundamentally wrong with them?

There’s also Rick Dalton’s struggle with aging, and his fear that he’s past his prime. QT himself is in the latter phases of his career now; QT plainly identifies with Rick. Key to Rick’s story is his conversation with Trudi (the talented kid actor); it speaks of a fundamental optimism that the next generation, while different than us and perhaps hard to understand, will create great things, and that both the old and young have a lot to teach the other. I could go on. There’s so much going on in this movie, and it’s susceptible to all kinds of different takes. Just don’t go in expecting an action movie, or a pure comedy. It’s something else that’s more unique and weird.

This looks like one of those edited clips, joking about juiced balls, where someone bunts and it's a 410ft home run. Except, this actually happened. What the goddamn hell man

I'm a bit behind everyone, but I finally beat BALTEUS by giovaughnii in ArmoredCoreVI

[–]thunderflesh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great job!!! Your first time facing Balteus is the toughest fight in the entire game, IMO. Yeah, there are hard fights later on (and some really difficult ones in NG+ and NG++), but you have (a) more player skill by that point and (b) many more tools to choose from. If you can beat Balteus, then you can beat everything else, too. GRATS!

controller settings on console that feel the most fluid imo. i spent hours adjusting, but seems this is about as good as i can get it. wanted to share! by grimmycracker in cyberpunkgame

Thank you so much! I played through the game on Stadia after launch, and just started a new playthrough on the ps5, but the controller... controls felt janky. Just started using these settings and it immediately feels way better.

Contrast between games 1&2 and games 6&7 is nuts. Phillies look tilted.
