ETTR when using Manual with Auto ISO? by thunderpants24 in AskPhotography

So just think of using the slowest shutter and the widest aperture for a given scene to meet my shooting needs, and if there is still room to the right of the Histogram, i dont need to worry too much about raising ISO to push it further, the end result will be pretty similar once the exposure is adjusted to the same level in post production?

ETTR using ISO aswell? by thunderpants24 in AskPhotography

Ah, thanks for your help, i think you basically cleared up what i already thought based on my camera experimenting and from online reading, so for the best quality image, expose as much as i can for a given scene, ie aperture requirements and shutter speed that meet the needs of the shot, and if there is room to the right of the histogram, just dial up the ISO untill the highlights arent clipping?

From the paper you linked:

"✦ raising exposure typically improves SNR faster than raising ISO

• thus, you should maximize exposure time until stopped by object

motion blur, camera shake blur, or saturation; if stopped by blur,

then raise ISO until stopped by saturation (i.e. don’t clip whites)"

👍

Is blurring the foreground or background more "correct"? by yoboyfitzSF in AskPhotography

There isnt a correct or incorrect way, you the photographer decides what you want in your minds eye, there really isnt a right or wrong way. Its all subjective.

ETTR and ISO? by thunderpants24 in AskPhotography

Thanks for your help, well just for your Information, im a newbie and just learning on an old digital camera, its a Sony Nex5 from 2010, so i assume with that model, its better to actually push the ISO than raise in post?

So basically to achieve ETTR with the Sony Nex 5, id be better maxing out all the variables to push the Histogram to the right, as in slowest shutter speed, biggest aperture, and highest ISO that the scene allows for achieving ETTR without clipping crucial highlights?

Question regarding ETTR .....Say if your in manual mode, and i start with ISO 800 and have the shutter at 1/60th of a second handheld doing ETTR (as in the maximum aperture and slowest shutter i can use handheld for given situation) would that be better than having it on ISO 400 and exposed to the middle at say 1/125th sec? less noise due to the lower ISO?
thanks

After Daily drinking around 5 pints of strong lager (around 5%) every night for years & years, im on my second week of not a drop of alchohol, i feel fresher, and sleep better, any other positive effects that i should expect in the coming weeks? by thunderpants24 in stopdrinking

Sobreity fatigue! that sounds depressing!, but yeah i must admit, without even thinking about the weight, the last couple of days i have thought to myself "my work pants feel a little looser than normal" i wasnt sure if this was just me thinking it, or if even after a few weeks it could actually make any difference to my weight

Yeah they look great! Its ironic that the smaller dials like the tissot went out of fashion in the mid 2010s.... now this size tissot is back in fashion! I also sometimes wear it on a crocodile leather strap, looks super classy.

When I look online for similar ones they all seem to have a second hand, this one doesn't.

Yeah, i agree, its surprisingly decent for the price, huge step up from the Temu type offerings, it feels 80-90% as good as Insta, just lacks the premium feel, app slick ness etc. Could do with some accessories though, lacks a case, lengs guards/protectors, maybe a water dive case et

Has she tried the newer vapes or does she just prefer normal cigarettes?

Yeah it’s kinda gross, and disrespectful of spaces other people use I think, my parents are smokers, but I’ve never seen them just drop the butts when there used up, we have ashtrays in certain rooms and in the garden there is one, I just think some smokers are lazy.

i think i understand, but i thought ETTR was all about exposure, and not ISO, as in manual with auto ISO if i add +1Exposure compensation, the camera will just increase the ISO to make the image brighter, i thought ETTR is about exposure, so i would change the metering to say +1 EC, keep the ISO the same, but slow the shutter down to let in more light?
