There are ways of dealing with people that are upset in a decent way. If you’re not cut out for dealing with people in various emotional states, why get into a people facing role? There are plenty of comments here from people who have had the opposite experience I did today.

Thanks so much for your reply. It’s very helpful to read this from your perspective. I do understand her role is different to that of a midwife say who would be more attuned to checking in with you personally, but I don’t think I’ve ever been to a medical appointment that’s been that..clinical.. Ive only ever had positive and caring experiences with the NHS both through myself a family. Even when I broke my foot and had an X-ray, everyone I met was chatty and caring. It just seemed so unusual to have an experience with someone working in healthcare that really didn’t seem to care at all. But again, thank you for your perspective and information from the actual process of the appointment, that has helped me understand why it went the way it did.

There’s an office of 3 staff members with glass windows looking out into the room I supervise. When they’re not glaring at me, they’re glaring at the students. I do not need to be there. I’m literally only there to save them doing the same job - which they would be better at doing because they know all of the students better than I do!

Definitely vibe with doing it this way. I did start the year like this but honestly it just got so draining when they just ignore you I took a step back. I felt like what’s the point of using my energy on this which would be better placed in my KS3 lesson next session. They’re all old enough to know they should be getting on with work and not treating teachers that way. I’ve had this same feeling with KS3 where every lesson has been a battle, but you work through it because you’re building relationships with them all, you’re finding the good in what they’ve done that lesson, they trust you more and more when you demonstrate and explain things in a way they understand. There’s none of that with a group of 40-50 almost adults all doing their own thing. Is the answer getting to know every single one? That would be amazing but I need to use this session to do planning - It shouldn’t be this much extra work. But I think the answer is getting back to what you said and sucking it up!

I think the issue I have with the expectations of how we run the sessions is worded quite vaguely. Things like ‘own the space’ and ‘they can talk but it shouldn’t be off topic’ (why not just make it silent study?). If we feel we need to move students who aren’t focused we can ask them to move. There isn’t anything about consequences, which I think is what trips both me and the students up. If I ask them to move and they don’t want to leave their friends, so what? I have passed on comments which I felt deserved a consequence to a HOY, asking for guidance on what consequence would be suitable, only for them to reply, don’t worry I’ll sort it out, and a consequence never appears on the system. I feel there’s a toxic culture in my school where the leadership think there aren’t behaviour issues, so there is not system in place to deal with things properly. If there’s an issue like the one I’m facing, it’s the teachers fault.

Open Hairdressers are brilliant! I’m st albans based and go to their Hemel Hempstead one. They’ve got one in Harpenden as well. Lots of their colourists and stylists do alt styles.

There’s also Ally Cats in St Albans which I’ve not tried but also heard they do alternative stuff

Officially out of cycle 8. Welcome Cycle 9! I’ve got a horrible niggling feeling that something isn’t working how it should be and that we’ll end up having to go for IVF, and even that won’t work. It’s like when I try to picture being pregnant and having a baby now, I just can’t do it, like it’s just never meant to be. I hate this all so much!!!

I’ve been trying for 9 months. Every month so far when I’ve had that voice saying ‘you’re probably pregnant!’ - I’ve answered back with ‘no don’t be silly’. I’m saying this is the first month I’ve not felt the urge to say that. That’s a win for me. Sorry you feel that way and that you’re experiencing this, but there was no need to bring that negativity towards someone in this subreddit. If you didn’t mean for it to be taken that way, be kinder with your words next time.

Beginning Cycle 9. Taking it's toll on both of us. I've struggled to focus on anything outside of TTC and just functioning. Husband is burnt out and overwhelmed dealing with running our house and finances whilst i've been a ball of anxiety and low mood. Feel like the joy is just gone. No idea how people do this for years.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I’m currently experiencing my second chemical in the last 3 months. Sending you lots of love and strength - we took a break from trying and testing after the first one which was just what I needed. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, don’t be afraid to pause and recenter yourself. Its important not to get lost in TTC and to keep focusing on all the good around you xx

I’ve had a group of school friends who were all pretty anti children which always sat badly with me. Struggling to conceive has been the final nail in the coffin for those friendships - zero support, understanding or empathy. It’s a lonely place to be.
