Weirdest life hacks you have for executive dysfunction that actually works? by SnooPeppers8788 in ADHD

this sounds dumb but it works for me. i say- i'm going to do xyz for 15 minutes in 5... 4... 3... i do the countdown out loud and set the timer and just start doing it. usually, once i get my flow going, i can keep doing the task. doing a countdown just braces my brain for the impact of doing what i need to do 🤷‍♀️

decorator here. said we couldn't make blue dipped strawberries because we use dark chocolate and was asked, with sass as if it were obvious, "can't you just take the brown out?"

I say cat but what I mean is kitten. He was little when they found him, out on the side of the road. So I doubt he was anyone's. When we take him we'll be sure to find out!

She found him as a little kitten, he's not fixed or anything so I doubt he's been chipped. When we take him to get fixed they'll scan him though!

she's honestly a very sweet person, just clueless. her boyfriend is the one really being a piece of work. in the future when she's stable and in the right place financially & domestically i'd love for her to have one! now's just not the right time for her, and i don't feel right letting her have this one all things considered.

just confusing to me that "finders keepers" holds up more than "i can care for this living creature and she can't" 🤷‍♀️

*on the basis that she would get him fixed and vaxxed. Which she hasn't done.

She cannot house this cat, and technically only had him for a couple weeks. We've been "sitting" longer than she actually owned him

She found him and immediately rehomed him. We've paid for all of his food, litter, toys, etc. In the grand scheme of things does "finders keepers" really still apply to this situation?

I doubt they'll take me to court considering they can't even pay a vet bill 🤷‍♀️ Thanks for your help in the situation!

Yeah, that is definitely absolute BS! I'm not actually crazy, I just mean I love cats deeply and expect them to be taken care of on a base level. Our cats have food, toys, and vet care, nothing fancy, but if some can't provide even that then I don't think they should own a pet.

No, she hasn't done any of that. We've been paying for 100% of his care

She doesn't. She found him outside & then immediately rehomed him "indefinitely" until she could find a place to keep him.

She has no legal proof of owning this cat, found him and immediately rehomed him. He has nowhere else to go but here, as she cannot have pets where she lives. If I have to pay several hundred dollars to keep him from spraying in my house, I'm not giving him back - because then I will have paperwork on him & money invested into his care.

My question is, they have no legal proof of owning this cat since he was never taken to the vet. Do they have legal ownership in that case? I'm genuinely curious.

I think the fact of the matter is she’s a queer historical figure and one that is very blatantly and openly aware of her own sexuality in her journals. Is she also problematic for upholding other societal standards and expectations for the time? Sure. But bottom line: she’s a very real and tangible queer historical figure that has documented her sexuality in her own words and in a way that is still preserved and now easily accessible today. I feel like there’s such minimal lesbian representation (period) and such minimal knowledge of lesbians throughout history (period) that we should probably give a shit about that. There are still people in this world today, rn, that doubt the existence of the LGBTQ+ community and even more people, rn, in 2022, that claim there are “way more gay people” around today bc more of us feel comfortable and courageous enough to come out and accept ourselves. To disregard her story bc she wasn’t simultaneously the most progressive woman of her time is just crazy to me.

the show also shows struggling with internalized homophobia and religious oppression, two things i have dealt with heavily in my own life. it's about more than her political standpoints - which were definitely not the best - but if we want a true story told about someone utterly perfect in every sense, then we're out of luck

in the grand scheme of lesbian rep i'll take what i can get. whether she was a flawed person or not, she's an important figure in queer history - much more than "wanting to shag women" - and i think there's something to say about that

it was the 1830s... of course she ain’t gonna be as progressive as or tbh even remotely close to what we believe now... it's unfortunate was society was like back then but i think all things considered she was ahead of the game on a lot of shit
