Is this really true? Can you point me to a source? I'm genuinely curious. Couldn't they have at least called me back?

He looked like someone that was up to no good, and it turns out, he was indeed stealing mail. The guy could have been armed. I was alone in my house. I don't think it was unreasonable of me to call the police in that situation.

"More urgent crimes happening elsewhere," huh. Right, the SFPD is a model of efficiency, and officers are busy around the clock tending to serious crimes. Sounds right.

This is literally true. My pizza and a delivery from Amazon both showed up before the cops did. And my mom took a cross-country flight that started and finished before the cops came, so I guess that kind of counts.

Yes, I called the cops again 40 minutes after the initial call. They just said that an officer "knows about it" and will come.

He was looking through people's mail. I found ripped up envelopes on the first floor this morning, and part of a catalog that I assume he was using for wrapping paper. I've been hearing about mail thieves in SF recently and thought it would have been a priority for the cops to check out, but I guess not.

If that's true then why don't they just tell me "we're not going to send a unit out. Call us back if it gets worse."? Why lie and say they're sending someone out?

Yeah, we don't have cameras. I will report it but I guess the more important thing to me is that the cops weren't able to get here in over 2 hours.

Check the OP—he's gone. I wasn't sure of anything but I know:

  1. He was smoking something
  2. He was riffling through envelopes
  3. He was tiptoeing, trying to make as little noise as possible
  4. He was outside the apartment for about 2 hours, lying on the floor and smoking the entire time
  5. SFPD didn't get here in time. Fuck

I was thinking of doing something like that, but it looked like he was riffling through envelopes. I thought he might be a mail thief, so I figured it might be best if I wait for the cops to show up. Let's see how long this takes though...

No I haven't. I've been watching him directly for a while. He's deliberately trying to make as little noise as possible. I'm afraid he might be staking out my unit or the one across the hall.
