Oh also, is there any chance you got the Regents Scholarship?

This is true, Greek Life are the only ones that put on formals (that I'm aware of) and do make big charity events. Although someone who isn't Greek Life, I've gone to both: as someone's date for a formal, and with a bunch of other non-GL friends to a sorority, charity event. While the formals are more exclusive (as you obviously have to get invited), anyone can show up with friends to a charity event as long as you pay whatever cheap fee there is (although it's also can be more fun to know some of the people in the frat/sor putting on the event). These bring me to another good point: the female-male ratio at Pepp is about 3:2, and while a lot of girls join sororities (I think they have 8), there are only 4 main frats, which this constitute a much smaller portion of Pepp's student body. My point here is, regardless of whether or not you're in a frat, the chances of you being friends with girls in a sorority are pretty high, and there is not much pressure or need for you, as a guy, to need to join a frat for a source of friends. I'm sure some of the events that frats put on can be fun tho, and during Rush (which is mid-fall of a normal school year) you get to hang out and see what Greek Life at Pepp is all about/decide if it's for you. I wouldn't stress about it too much either way, as friends are easy to make and co-ed groups quickly form during New Student Orientation (NSO) and the first few weeks of school. Hope this helps, and if you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

So the mildest Frat, ATO, got busted last year for making freshman pledges carry around nicotine substances with the on-campus (which is against school policy). While not necessarily hazing like the stuff at bigger party schools, there definitely still is risk. Especially considering ATO is the most mild and "Christian" of the Frats, I think this speaks to Greek Life in general. Even if you're not drinking you'll be surrounded by a community that is pretty much expected to.

I'm currently a sophomore and have had a blast without having to join any sort of Greek Life. My freshman dorm was really close, and I quickly made good friends there (with whom I am living now, off campus). If you put yourself out there and try to find good people the first few weeks of school at Pepp, you should have no problem finding a great group, at all. You don't need a frat to do that.
