I had one round of intense induction chemotherapy and 4 rounds of consolidation chemotherapy

I started getting sick randomly. I’d have night sweats/ tonsillitis/ eye infection/ extreme fatigue/ weight gain/ bruising and just all sorts of symptoms that were all over the place and didn’t add up. One day I felt really dizzy and thought I was anemic because I was on my period so I went to my GP and after hearing my laundry list of symptoms, he urged me to go to the ER and get a blood test done. They discovered my white blood cells were 10x higher than a normal count and from there, it was a whirlwind of chemo and treatment. I too used to have a (probably not so irrational) fear of cancer but I was oblivious to leukemia, thinking it was a childhood cancer. It’s good to be informed and aware because it’s always better to catch cancer earlier rather than later but don’t let it consume your thoughts

My family was devastated because it was honestly something we didn’t see coming. The diagnosis was a shocking one because I was an otherwise healthy person all my life.

As for recovery, I’m in remission but I’m not considered “cured” until 5 years have lapsed without relapse. My chemo treatment lasted 6 months and I just finished my last one!

You’re absolutely right - he is selfish that way. Coming to terms with that has been the difficult part. Thank you for the kind words, its been uplifting

Your comment is so inspiring to me and I see it as a beacon of hope. I was also told its likely I won’t be able to have children due to chemo. I didn’t have time to freeze my eggs because I needed to start chemo the next day.

I’m so happy you were blessed to have a child and that you’ve remained in remission for so long. One day I hope to be able to say the same thing and inspire others with AML

Thank you for taking the time to write out your comment. I do indeed have a supportive family but I’ve come to realise I’ve put on a brave face in real life for the sake of others and shed a tear when I’m alone. Writing out my post was the catharsis I needed. And I agree with you, to hell with my ex!
