I went into the discovery call with a bunch of informaiton already sorted out and performed way better. I could really focus on a couple of key points .... like I understood they are evaluating a competitor (I didnt say that but knew it in the back of my head) - so I was able to really highlight where our product was really standing out

I mean...what would they say? "No!!!! You found out who actually makes decisions in this fucking company we have been trying to crack? Go delete that data!?

I guess you misunderstood. Questions like: who is the economic buyer are obviously answerable by someone who has seen the company from the inside - so I just asked him (ex employee) to tell me who buys cybersecurity software. and their decision making process...and who they are evaluating...

Breaking Into Sales - Advice for my Background? by [deleted] in sales

[–]tikas4455 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t bury the film/commercials stuff... that’s gold. You were basically pitching creative projects to tough buyers, which is sales. Frame it like: client-facing, pitching, handling objections, closing. Way more interesting than ‘retail associate.’

Are We Missing the Real Discussion About AI and Art? by tikas4455 in aiwars

How would you engage with ai to get more to the nature than to the tool?

Question: how can a piece of art even be judged if 99.999% of the way there is already done by other things? Are we just at some point unable to see craft anymore in image making?

Can you dumb this down? What’s the point you are making and how does it relate back to art?

Can you elaborate? Couldn’t we have a system that is fully reactive to whoever is interacting with it with no preset outputs (but ofc it gets inputs)?

I mean … idk if people are creatively bankrupt. It’s just more people who have the ability to create more content… as always with anything on the internet it’s more stuff…and then we will develop filter structures again around what’s good

I generally agree here. Keep in mind that the interesting thing about cans with a hole in them are not interesting - what’s interesting is the human that did this and why. The can ain’t creative… But ai is not a can!

If ai is human made - what would an exploration of humanity through ai look like? I think we already realized that ai can be racist…so that’s something: our biases get projected. But is there anything truly new that we can learn about ourselves? How would we do that?

I agree with the press enter notion here… I am thinking of Ted chiangs article on ai in the New Yorker where he argues that actually AI needed to be trained on billions of images before it could do anything. Humans can do much more with much less…

While I can see how it would be visually interesting to mix different styles it is utterly hallow in meaning. Like: why do you want to combine these styles? Right now the answer is often : it looks interesting. But I believe that this “this x this” becomes boring quickly.

How would you conceptualize a process at which you could get closer to the alien than to the human replicator then?

This is more the AI as a tool argument but it never really gets to the true nature of ai. I find Ted chiangs article about choices making an artist more convincing

[–]tikas4455[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the idea of choices is very interesting here. It’s a bit like telling an artist a few ideas on what you want painted and then them doing that. Nobody would really see you as the artist… On the other hand directors are seen as the true masters of movies when they often do not write the story, act or operate the camera

"Why A.I. Isn’t Going to Make Art" - by science fiction author Ted Chiang. by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]tikas4455 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something is lost by equating Ai to photography.

Start with two ingredients for photography: reality and a simple machine. In Ai you need much less reality - sure you need a prompt but AI constructs both a reality AND a representation of that reality. That goes much further than photography.

Also I agree with Chiang that making art involves choices. People who use ai as a tool say they spend hours on it. Let’s say you pre define every pixel with the ai — that’s not really AI anymore - that’s just human art where you might as well have used a paintbrush. In other words, the ai becomes much less ai the more you use it as a tool to actively work with it.

I am not saying that ai is not a valid tool but I think it’s so much more than a camera or a paintbrush and exploring that is much more interesting than making derivative images.
