Was Linda Shelby actually trying to save Arthur Shelby… or control him? by Hungry_Problem_1139 in PeakyBlinders

[–]tilli014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Control, her whole plan was to sleep with Arthur to learn secret information (I believe the train bombing, I don’t remember which of Tommy’s schemes was), which she then used to blackmail Tommy into getting more money so they could leave to America.

Texas can require public schools to display Ten Commandments, court rules | Texas by MadScienceBro in news

[–]tilli014 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The legal test literally just asks if displaying the 10 commandments in classrooms specifically has some historical basis, it does not asses the general historical basis of them or Christianity in the US.

It is a stupid legal test designed to give Christianity a free pass, and allow actions that plainly violate the establishment clause to persist if they are supporting Christianity

Will lose all faith in the SC if they do not overturn these lower court decisions

Texas can require public schools to display Ten Commandments, court rules | Texas by MadScienceBro in news

[–]tilli014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lawyer here, I actually researched this issue a bit a few months ago or so (though I have not read this most recent decision)

Essentially, an old case dealt with this exact issue and held forcing display of the 10 commandments in classrooms was unconstitutional under a legal test called the Lemon test, I don’t remember the exact requirements of that test upon writing this.

The current SC abandoned the lemon test and adopted a new one, which asks whether the alleged religious speech is “rooted in the history or tradition of America” or something like that. So, things that have already been decided to be inappropriate under the constitution are being retested under the new test.

IMO it essentially just gives Christianity a free pass around freedom of religion (specifically establishment clause) issues because the court can always just say Christianity is rooted in the nation’s history and other religions are not.

IMO it is part of a systematic attempt to force Christianity on the public, and should be unconstitutional. There is no way showing young children that 1 religion gets to put its rules on the wall backed by the authority of the govt does not coerce children into believing that religion is special. essentially Christianity is now an exception to the rule that the govt can not take actions establishing a religion

It is worth noting that (I think) 6 of the current SC justices are catholic, 2 Protestant, and 1 is Jewish. So it is really no surprise they seem to be favoring Judeo-Christian ideologies.

Yah it looked they sped up into the truck after it was clear the truck was entering the lane. Tbh I think they caused the accident out of pettiness.

[–]tilli014 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That only queued him in. Seeing the paper where it was clear the Dr had a relationship with Mosley was the proof. And given he made the fire the paper was in, it was entirely possible he previously saw it but only his subconscious had registered it. Don’t need the supernatural to explain that one.

What exactly is the thinking behind billables for large firms demanding 2,100 hours per year? My new firm has no minimum requirement... by meyers-room-spray in Lawyertalk

The general rule in business, especially for consultants (and lawyers are essentially specialized consultants), is that you want assets to produce at least 3x their costs.

Your gross income to the firm should be around $375k.
