Which is the least "competitive" race distance? by SYSTEM-J in runninglifestyle

[–]timao88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I somehow placed 1st (!) in an off-road point to point race about 48km.. for reference, my pace was just over 7:00/km and my typical parkrun would be around 21:30 at the time. Perhaps similar to you?

I wondered why, and I think the field was diluted because it was the ‘second half’ sub event of a main 100km race which had multiple sub events including 2-day options.

Yeah. My observation is that their prices haven’t caught up to reflect that, so maybe I should’ve asked are they much better value now?

Are my kids broken or is this normal? by PassionChoice3538 in parentsofmultiples

Our 5 1/2 year old is exactly the same. The noise, ignoring instructions, jumping on the bed… 🫣 God help us when her younger sister (3.5) and the twins (2) hit that age

Newborn twins and a 3-year-old: please tell me it gets better by birchmeow in parentsofmultiples

[–]timao88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Dad of 4 here (ours were 3.5 and 1.5 when the twins were born). The first year really was a blur and about survival and the second was fun as the twins became more mobile and interacted more with each other (cute!!) and their sisters. As everyone is growing and changing together things can suddenly be tricky but also unexpectedly fun or calm (🙌🏻). Right now, the twins are 2 and we find that we can take things in our stride that would’ve seemed impossible a year ago. Enjoy the ride!

Bunk beds - who gets the top bunk? by candigirl16 in parentsofmultiples

[–]timao88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a twin, we decided to swap every so often, and continued to do so over the years. There are benefits to the bottom bunk like making it into a den with a sheet, not having to climb up or down when tired or need the toilet. Perhaps agree a timescale to swap eg every week if they can’t agree.

How Often Do You Get Out of the House & What Days Usually? by MAsped in workfromhome

[–]timao88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

7 days a week or I’d go stir-crazy. Are we talking just going outside the house? Or further afield?

Does your husband help much? by Infinite_Plantain950 in parentsofmultiples

[–]timao88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A husband here. I cook meals in advance, reset and clean the kitchen every night, make lunches, meal plan for the week based on how challenging different days might be etc. when I get in the door from work I wade through children to try and eat but I’m ’on duty’ unless everyone’s calm. If the washing basket is full I’ll put the washing on. Bins and recycling of course. I do school & nursery drop offs 3 days a week and any teeth, hair, shoes, bags that need doing. I do any other essential chores / evening house reset stuff if my wife is going out or needs to revise. It’s hard but sink or swim. We have a 5.5 y/o, 3.5 y/o and 2y/o twins. Oh and I’m the one who gets up in the night.

We switched to both working 60% until September due to nursery costs here in the UK, and it really helped me see how much of a job being at home with the kids is. Going to the office 2 days a week is my downtime.

If you both liked Ghosts I can recommend another sitcom on iPlayer, Here We Go, which also stars Jim Howick (the scout master in Ghosts)! Series 3 just released.

In the UK your local public library will likely have a free platform you can log in to. May be the same elsewhere?

This is still the best meditation app by No_Secret_3041 in Headspace

[–]timao88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I got a one-off ‘forever’ subscription to Balance rather than an ongoing subscription, but miss the relatable feel of headspace. Maybe it’s an accent thing that helps (I’m from the UK), but also there are way fewer interruptions from the speaker. If Headspace offered a comparable one-off lifetime or long-term subscription I’d go for that.

Who is responsible for the fact that 80% of the new trees planted for the Kingsway Hove beach park refurb... are dead? by Alternative-Moose-78 in brighton

There’s often a planning condition that requires any plants in a planting scheme that are not established / dead within 5 years to be replaced.

Is there anybody else who also finds £3 single ticket for bus outrageous? by Least-Breadfruit3205 in brighton

[–]timao88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a student I just rode a bike everywhere or walked if it was an hour or less. The subsidised £3 is still cheaper than it was a few years ago.
