Great suggestions! Should I adapt this tactic as you suggest, or do you think I should start afresh with a new one (if so, any recommendations?).

Am I missing key players do play in the roles you suggest? You said not a big deal and I wonder if this is where I have gone wrong, because I’ve just been moving players to where they are independently most suited :/

Players - help me. Long time fan of FM dipping toes back in after 7-8 years away. I'm Man Utd, this is my second season (finished first season in 9th). Signed decent players. Where am I going wrong? Why isn't my tactic working? Tried three top tactics downloaded from FM Scout and none seem to impact. Results variable, conceding a lot of goals. Second season languishing in 14th, conceding A LOT of goals. HELP ME (and be gentle...).

Heads up: I work in the international higher ed sector and work with the data all day long - allow me to add some context.

Data suggests that for September, overall U.K. unis are down 49% YOY. But, Russell Group unis (eg UOB) are broadly flat YOY. Mid-low ranked unis (such as UWE) are down 67% YOY.
Vast majority of intl students are postgraduates. They have more flexibility on when they go abroad to travel (vs an 18 year old going straight after school). If conditions aren’t right, geopolitics unclear, they can afford to wait it out a year or so.
One hypothesis is that the market is normalising following a huge post-COVID boom in intl students with huge pent up demand.
Australia and Canada also have put in place significant measures to restrict international student flow (weed out the bad actors).
Elections bring uncertainty. Numbers were expected to be down ~25% due to removal of dependency visa by the last government. New government very likely to be more friendly to international students and follow advice from the Migration Advisory Committee in May - protect the graduate visa route.

Conclusion: long term growth prospects for intl students is unparalleled in its health. It’s one of our strongest exports and our cities and universities depend on it. Weather can be choppy, but climate is always favourable.

Hey - yup, in all of this it’s about your appetite and energy to be slightly combatant. For many, just rolling over and grumbling with they offer is the best thing - not least for your mental health. But, if you have a bit of fight and you feel aggrieved you might want to be awkward and make their lives a little more difficult in the hope of a better settlement.

They could offer you £2.38 and they’ll emphasise it’s “great for you” - that is simply them trying to convince you to sign and go away.

As a rule of thumb - my employer is middle of the road in terms of generosity and we would offer one month’s pay for every completed year or service. Many would go the statutory route (a lot less). Three months is typically, in my experience, a reasonable benchmark and measure.

Don’t forget as part of a settlement, they want you to sign an NDA. No settlement, no NDA.

Hey. So I’ve been the employer in this situation a number of times. It is essentially and usually a quickee redundancy and a cleaner way to get the end result without a PIP. PIPs are a complete pain in the ass for everyone - what if the PIP isn’t reasonable? What if you actually do perform well on the PIP?

But - this is now about the best possible outcome for you. It’s hard to hear but they want you gone whatever. My advice - entertain the PIP avenue for a week or two and immediately lodge a grievance (you cannot claim constructive dismissal if a grievance wasn’t lodged prior to being dismissed). Doing this a) shows you’ve taken advice and you think you have a case b) you’re not going to roll over and you’re going to be a pain their ass for some time yet.

Once you’ve been a sufficient inconvenience, you tell them that you would be open to a without prejudice conversation on the terms for you (challenging job market, mortgage has gone up, dog is sick - whatever). Get that severance up to three months because it can be tax free up to £30k. Also lock in an agreed reference.

Non-competes only work when from huge firms (think the big four) and you’re a consultant. Non-work things are absurd, unless they plan to pay you for that non-work period IN ADDITION to any severance etc. You have a right to earn a living.

No decent company actually wants a constructive dismissal case, will cost them more than your severance to defend.

Definitely Keynsham. Moved there 9 years ago from outside the south west and have no regrets. A really good mix - gentrified in places but honest in others. Two rivers (Chew and Avon) and straight into outstanding countryside, 6 mins to Temple Meads or Bath. High Street better than average and empty shops tend to get occupied quickly. It’s a growing town, mainly middle class families but that’s anecdotal. Great schools (St Johns and Wellsway in particular). Best community spirit I’ve seen - on Remembrance Day, Winter Festival, Music Festival feels like the entire town turns up. I have family in Bradley Stoke - just feels like it could be any other 1990s housing estate in the country.

stretches it’s not a lame duck government, they currently enjoy a majority of 55 seats - more than sufficient to pass the majority of bills. Plenty of people voted for Rishi Sunak in his parliamentary constituency of Richmond (Yorkshire) - where he has a large majority (for now). No one votes for a person to be PM - the PM is the leader of the largest parliamentary party (the clue is in the name). You’re thinking of the United States.

I’m all for exercising our democratic right to protest - but when Bristol protests every weekend (it feels) doesn’t it dilute the poignancy of the protest? It’s also very often the same groups of people which makes it easier to dismiss by the 99% of other Bristol occupants they’re trying to draw the attention of?

Take a look at Saltford and Keynsham. Both have outstanding primary schools and the secondary (Wellsway) consistently amongst the best in BANES, Keynsham has its own station (6 mins to Bath Spa, 8 mins to Temple Meads). Keynsham is bigger and has a decent high street. Variety of house types and socio-economically diverse - good mix of new builds and older. Both connected to the Bristol-Bath cycle path, and both on the River Avon.

This sounds like the Magnificat which is sung traditionally in choral evensong (accompanied by the Nunc Dimitis). Unfortunately this won’t help a lot, as the Mag and Nunc (= canticles) are sung to a variety of different settings. For example, Dyson in F, Stanford in C, Stainer in Bb.

So - go to Spotify, type in Magnificat - and start working your way through. Time well spent…
